I bought an older focus from CA. The body is almost perfect (prior to getting cut off that is but soon to be fixed). It gets GREAT mileage serving its purpose fully. Plus, I got a KILLER price on the car. This rental Compass we have is nice and comfy but UGH! It SUX on gas!

Funny thing is that the new trucks aren't too bad mileage-wise. On the road my Silverado gets 18+ mpg with a V-8.

The Subie gets 31-33mpg even with full time AWD on the open road. I get around 29mpg here in the mountains. My buddies with full size trucks and Jeeps get 15-17mpg avg here. I like both trucks (still have mine), and love Jeeps, just don't want one for a daily driver.

I got 28mpg in my Honda, never had a problem ( knock on wood) other then 2 sensors going. Just regular routine maintenance and wear and tear items and I'm creeping on 300 000 kms. I had a problem with the paint which was warrantied, and obviously the airbags, but I got a free oil change out of that. Sorry I had to replace the starter as well, the dealership has always been good to me as well. I was thinking a small SUV but they all seem to look like mini vans now.

I have had a few jeeps and for new england, they are top notch vehicles, no doubt! I have had all wheel drive or 4x4 for a LONG number of years but have found that living near the coast now, front wheel drive and good snow tires are serving me well.
All of the above posts seem to have impressive mpgs tho! Technology Def has its advantages! I do believe however that there are much more efficient designs that have been purchased and shelved by the gas monster corps... There is no profit in 100mph cars in their eyes! Conspiracy theory, maybe but these highly efficient cars that come and go from time to time obviously do exist.
I have Def had to put some work into the focus but I didn't buy it new and it was not well maintained by previous owners in things like notoriously bad motor mounts, a damaged airbox letting water into the intake... (it was fun tracking that down behind the front bumper cover and fender!!!) A full tune up, brakes etc... But nothing major to speak of so I can't complain too loudly.

I also have an Acura CL (similar in size to an Accord) and it does about 25-26 mpg with a V-6, so taking the truck isn't that much of a stretch especially when I need to haul stuff.

Never done a cruise either. I always wanted to do a cruise on Alaska tho. It looks so beautiful! I am not so into the cold weather etc, but you don't get a tropical cruise headed to alaska! :hehe: I have never got insurance on a vacation, but I think I would at least look into it on a cruise. Seems like that's the most likely to have unforeseen issues.

Oh yes, we're doing the insurance as well as the daily drink pass. Much cheaper that way overall. There's a Margaritaville and a cigar lounge on the ship. Hell, I may not come back. :D

Never heard of any of those places, sounds sketchy :)

LOL, St. Thomas and Nassau are fairly major vacation destinations. Tortola is a British Isle, and a popular cruise destination. If they were really sketchy, nobody would be going there on vacations.

Tell you what... If you end up not coming back... Drop me a line and I'll get myself a nice 1/5 scale hydro... I'll be down there to set up camp in the beach til I get myself established.... I can see a hobby shop/track/boat race track down there, Doing VERY well!!! Gotta catch the rich folks and impress them with a scary fast, ultra cool looking race boat and a nice yatch for it to tie up to put in the ocean together! Maybe have it go from boat to boat offering champagne and business cards!!! :hehe:
