All of my RCs up to this point have been RTRs, but my next will for sure be a kit most likely another buggy or an on-road car since I have none. When I first started in this hobby which was only a few months ago I just wanted to drive, but since then I have began to like taking my cars apart and working on them and hopping them up. I know fill like thats half the fun of them.

I'm glad to see that this site is home to so many "rc geeks" as fast eddy and rolex put it. I'm goin to begin hunting around for a kit that i can offord. i have a little over a month before ill be back in the states so i got time to figure it out.
now most every one in this thread in this thread is a kit man. so it is here i will seek help. i need a $150 motor that will rock out in a buggy. (not worried about size as i dont plan on racing it) and a $300 kit. the kit i should be able to find alright (i hope) but i dont know jack about motors yet. so help a builder out..........

thanks,
jonathan

Ofna .21 Hyper 8 Port. Just remember to seal the base of the carb with some RTV. I have one in my Storm and it rocks. It runs great in Savages too.
Cost - $145 at Tower - http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXESC3&P=ML

i enjoy building a lot, but since I've gotten back into the hobby. i havent bought 1 new car yet. I've found that buying someone elses used car is far cheaper, and since i come from a kit background. i know how to fix anything that is wrong with them. in fact one of the first things i do, is tear the kit down completely. clean everything and replace broken or worn parts. I'm working on 2 XXX-NT Drakes right now. for what i paid for both i could have had a new kit. however i would not have a complete parts car and then some in spares, or 8 sets of extra tires, a spare motor, etc. so i actually get to build the car twice kinda. i know its done right, and i get more for my money. i also dont mind helping RTR folk. its one of the way i get my friends into the hobby. i let them drive one of my cars to hook em, tell them they can buy a car already built to real them in, then help them when they have problems to keep em in it. its that easy to help our hobby grow. and with the manufactures producing so many different RTR's of increasing quality, it only gets easier to bring in new blood.

id also like to add, that since i buy used cars, i get a different view of our hobby. one of my drake kits i must say. was built by someone who had no buisness building a kit. I'm guessing it was a case of someone new, wanting the best car they could get. didnt know how to assemble the kit right and was therefore dissatisfied with it. and sold it to me dirt cheap in frustration. this person should have been sold an RTR to get them introduced and taught slower so that this didnt happen.

I'm pretty new to the r/c scene and i've started to notice the same thing. i've decided that my next vehicle will be a buggy and while shopping around there aren't any entry level buggy's out there in kit form, everything is RTR. Although I really really want to build my next vehicle from scratch I don't want to spend $1000 on my first buggy. Unfortunately, RTR will be the route I go I guess. Hopefully I break something really quick :)

corrado i think your onto something. i bought a used b3 off ebay once and got a bunch of extras. althogh i ended up spending a few bucks to fix the diff/tranny it was well worth it. this kit was also assembled (and ran) by some some one in the dark. but even with all the repair cost it was still a deal. so i think i may see whats out there. but then again a new kit sounds so nice. decisions, decisions........well thanks for the inspiration.
