kinda pissed off at @DavidB1126 right now. dudes been posting stereo stuff on instagram and now I'm tearing into my set up to try to fix a sound balance issue iv been having for years. (right speaker is louder than the left and its been getting worse the last few months)

Maybe wiring or something or something internal on your amplifier?

I have a watt meter connected to mine and doesn't matter if I have it connected to my Yamaha AVR or vintage pioneer the right channel is always slightly louder / higher watts wide but in reality I don't hear a difference in volume.

Anyways speaking about that I've been messing around with my stereo equipment for some time now probably because I'm not doing a lot of RC these days but hoping to get back more into it since the outdoor season is back

Also because I just got a pair of new speakers I'm using as rear/surrounds in my basement so my stereo is currently in 4/4.1ch mode (4.1 if I turn on the sub). With all the speakers I have 47 inches of displacement. 2 12s, 2 6.5s, 1 10. Way more bass than any soundbar on the market with aggressive DSP can ever do. Real bass (pressurize the room) vs artificial bass.

Speaking about stereos (again, lol) I've been wanting and searching around for a black Yamaha cassette deck. Ideally want dual but might want single so if I record a tape I can hear what's it's recording in real time. Want to get more into tapes yet also make a "rack" type setup to match the late 90s Yamaha disk changer I have. I've considered getting more into vinyl but getting a real turntable, the maintenance and upkeep on them, the price of vinyls, isn't just for me, plus vinyls don't give the clarity and low end like digital does, or even tapes.

i had this problem about 20 years ago. fixed the problem by swapping the speakers left to right. idk why that had any effect.
over the last probably 10 years iv been slowly turning the balance knob further and further left. the issue got better when i got new speaker wire about 8 years ago.
idk i got it all torn apart. then got distracted by yard work, ill keep messing with it later.

What receiver or amp do you have? Or also speakers?
Could be that the left speaker is getting less efficient/sensitive than the right one. I'm not sure

You need to start swapping channels at sources. Swap left and right from your turntable, cd player... See where exactly the problem is coming from.

I have seen oxidation on the connectors cause signal loss.
Curious, is any of your system balanced?
I'd swap cables there too.

made progress.
swapped out the loud side wire with a longer wire. both left and right are close to equal lengths now. the old wire was about 4 feet shorter. why i thought that was a good idea idk. swapped the speakers left to right (hey it did something back in the day)
I'm using a 16/4 cable. so for the first time in i don't even remember how long both speakers are connected to both A and B channels. could be my imagination but i could swear channel B (which hasn't been used in well over a decade) could be more balanced (?).
but anyway it's way better than it used to be. instead of faint vocals and almost no music from the left speaker it actually plays like its supposed to.
which now has me thinking there's something going on internally with the left wire. id swap it out or at least try swapping the wires left to right, but iv already put everything back together and am happy enough with the results that i don't care anymore.

the thought also just occurred to me that the left speaker could also be getting affected from all the power cords and various cables behind the wall unit. 6 video game consoles, VCR, blu-ray, direct TV box. that's bound to create some interference.

cheapest iv seen it in the last week was $5.69. highest was $6.29.
and i need to get gas Monday or Tuesday so there goes $100.
it's times like this i miss driving my bug. my truck gets 19mpg around town, bug got closer to 24.

My blazer gets 10 mpg around the city, and gas is up to $5 a gallon here in Oregon
