Been putting my SC10FT though it's paces on a super rough track lately. Ruts have formed in the track from heavy rain and the track being on a slight grade. All I can say is, I'm thankful for the RPM bumpers doing their job well.

The truck was bought used a couple of years ago, and it had a weird setup, that's for sure. Shocks were filled with some awful thick oil along with #3 pistons, and way too many limiters for my liking. One side of the driveline had a CVD, and the other side had a CVA axle. I opted for putting in another CVA axle to match the other side. The spacer for the topshaft was missing; C-clip was missing on front axle, and add a few stripped parts to the list.

I wish I would have saved the eBay listing, 'cause the guy selling the SC10 made it sound like it was one of the fastest, most blue enhanced SC10 around :p. Definitely lots of blue. :hehe:

Anyways, I think I got it at a great price.

After fixing all the issues, rebuilding the diff, and setting up the truck back to stock FT settings, the SC10 is a blast to drive.

After snapping a ball stud in the u-brace, I've decided it was time to put the HD ball studs to use. The Associated 6277 4-40 ball studs are getting harder to find, and SC10/T4 front shock tower doesn't allow for larger ball studs, I thought I'd save my spares for the front.

The base of HD ball studs are only a bit more "robust", but should hold up to a bit more abuse. Right? At least the HD ball studs are easy to come by, and the SC6.1 ball cups are so much better than stock Team Associated 7230 "things" that a lot of people just chuck into the waste can.

This is looking super nice! I hope i get around to upgrading my sc10 like this too if i get the money and time. I like the looks. Now from someone who never drove his sc10 but i drive my slash how is the rc? everyone says ill throw away my slash when my sc10 is running

Don't know what happened to original photos but...

I'm so glad the newer stuff come with screws to secure the shock pistons. Well, not all newer RCs get that treatment.

The Associated "small bore" shocks always worked great. Probably why I never bothered to upgrade them, but them e-clips sure do make things a bit difficult at times. I started to use balloons, a couple of years ago, to make shock boots. Anything to save the shafts from getting beat up more than normal, I'm all for it.

Working on the front end, I noticed a bit of side to side slop on the axle. The aluminum hex adapter fits over the axle pin and bottoms out. I took a shim
from the outside of the axle and moved it to the inside/behind the bearings.

It helped take out the side to side play. Never noticed the play before. 🤷‍♂️ Parts wearing out over many years is my guess.

My SC10.2FT earlier this month...
Having turned the clocks back (stupidest thing ever 🤢🤮), today begins my journey into RC slumber. Sundays and Mondays are my days off. If temps aren't above 50*F, I don't take my RCs out. Got plenty of time to catch up on maintenance/cleaning now.

Slowly tearing down the SC10 for a once over. Getting in all the nooks and crannies. Will the cleaning/rebuild be enough to rekindle my feelings for 2wd SCTs?

Did Associated go overboard on the VTS slipper with it's three pads?...

Moving on to the shocks, and we'll get this SC10.2FT put back together.

Looks clean... that can't last! :joyful:

Nicely done.
Thanks. There is only three times that I go in-depth on cleaning my RCs. One, if I've ran it in the mud. Two, if it's going to be a shelf queen. Three, getting ready to sell. It's not going to be a shelf queen, and the truck has, years ago, only ever seen mud once in it's life...

It's more work for me, but I like to know that I'm sending out a RC that's been given a good once over. I don't want new owner to have surprises.
