Bought a new tmaxx 3.3 (4907) last month. I went through the break in process by the book. Everything was running fine until I started it yesterday. I started the engine and started playing around on some flat ground. After about halfway through the tank of fuel I noticed it started to loose power. When I hit the throttle the RPM of the engine rev up and it does go but it picks up speed slowly (no spinning out just gradually accelerates) when it gets up to speed it will not shift into second gear. Just wines really high and stays in first. I have tried leaning it out about 1/8( because excess fuel was comming from exhaust). That didn't help so I tried richer still same. I tried to set the HSN and LSN back to factory setting (HSN- 4 turns out LSN-1 3/4 turns out) still no love. At this point I believe it doesn't have to do with needle setting. It was about 45 degrees out this day but I haven't had a problem running it when it was that cold on other days. The motor has just under 1 gallon of fuel through it. I have kept a close eye on temperature and it is usually around 230-240 degrees. There was one day it ran up to about 280 but I immediately shut off the engine and richen the needle. Any advice would be appreciated.

Sounds like your slipper clutch needs adjustment, or your clutch is worn out, my 3.3's run great at 260-280, If the engine doesn't have a good tune it will not shift, and always make your adjustments while the engine is running.

Thanks for the advice. I am currently out of town until tomorrow, but when I get back home I will look at the slipper clutch and get back with an update.

I'm going to put money on the slipper clutch like what hamz and tmaxx said. I had probably 1- 1 1/2 gal through my rtr stampede and went to check to see how loose the slipper was (for the hell of it) and turned out to be real loose. I don't know about the tmaxx but for my stampede they said to tighten it down tight, then back it out 1/4 turn. It's probably different than the tmaxx but that's just a reference.

Ok so Turns out you all were right. I looked and I could hold it with my hand while spinning the spur gear. I Tightened it down and 1/4 turn back out. Started her up and WALLA... Ripping the ground apart and shift into 2nd with ease...thanks for the help.

Yep, that issue is usually either slipper clutch being set wrong as wear occurs or glazing on the clutch shoes causing them to slip. In either case, they both cause excessive heat really quickly and can damage themselves.

Just about every Traxxas we've sold over the last 6 month has had a loose slipper. We're having to tell people to check them before running them, we usually tell them to do a basic check, but now we specify the slipper clutch.
