Switched to 6v Rx pack, but what about the switch?

Ok, here it goes.. I bought a 6v 1100Mah pack for my receiver and unplugged the old "AA" pack deal from the switch. Then I went to plug my new battery in, and the tips are different. I know the battery is correct b/c it matches my OFNA charger, but it doesn't meet up with the switch on my Hyper 7. What's the deal, do I have to plug the battery directly into the receiver, and unplug it each time I a finished??
 
You have some options...

You can either plug it directly into the reciever.

You can get a switch with the right connector (the one thats on your batt)

or you can splice the wires on one side of either the pack, or the swicth and make the correct connection.

I recommend the first method because you are getting a direct connection. No need for a switch, just take the plug out. but its up to you.

It goes in between the battery pack and receiver. The charging jack is where you plug your charger in to. If you are using a peak charger, you can use the old switch you have as a "donor" for the female side. This part will clip in to your peak charger. With the switch in the off position, you can continue to charge.

Option 2 is to just use a direct method which means no switch. To turn your battery off and on will reguire unplugging your battery from the rx. The same goes for charging. You will just plug it directly to your charger.

I use both methods on different cars and quite frankly, I prefer the direct method. It's one less connection to go bad.
 
Great! I knew I would get a quick response from you guys, and good info too. I think I will go witht he switch until I actually start racing, just for the convienience.
 
If you have a soldering iron, I would suggest upgrading your connectors to something a little more reliable. Those receiver style plugs (JR, Futaba, etc) can come loose, and melt easily.

I run these for my connections between battery and switch.

I also use a switch with a charge lead like mentioned below. This allows you to always leave your pack connected to the car. Thre is a separate lead to connect your charger to, that you activate by putting the switch in the off position.

Add to that a swtich dust cover and you have a bullet proof setup.
 
some packs have a charge lead built in.. i think he metioned a plug that fit his ofna charger?? if so you dont need a switch with the charge lead, because the pack already has one. then all you need is a switch harness with the correct ends..

Ok, my battery pack only has one lead. My switch, cas a dust cover, and two leads. The first lead is the same size and shape as the lead that comes from my battery (male) and plugs into the receiver. The second lead is the one that originally plugged into my "AA" battery bar which holds 4 "AA's". I hate to be a pest, but I have made decisions as to what I need on my own, and ordered the stuff from Tower, only to get them and realize I didn't order enough stuff, or the wrong stuff. So I would like to be as sure as possible as to what I need before I go out and buy it. I don't have a soldering gun, but buying one isn't out of the question either, seems like something that could be useful to someone in this hobby. I have a standard switch that comes with a Hyper 7 PBS RTR, and a Duratrax 5 cell 6.0v battery that does not meet up with the switch's lead. I would like to be a ble to keep the battery plugged into the receiver always, and would also like to be a ble to use a switch. If any of you guys has the time and patience to help me out in this matter, it would be greatly appreciated.

P.S. I promise when I'm not a newb anymore, I'll help newbs out some to free up all your guy's time.... LOL...
 
can you take a pic of what connectors you have? I am trying to picture it in my head and I just gave myself a headache. lol.
 
You'll need a photo host, such as photobucket.com (what I use), then you copy and paste the IMG tags (photobucket puts those together for ya) into your post, and you're done. They'll pop up here. Just make sure they're sized 800x600 or less.

The one that I posted previously, is the switch you will need. Your other choice is to get a new plug, solder the plugs and insert into the casing accordingly. I think you should just get the one I suggested. Make sure it says it is for a FUTABA J plug
 
Awesome. I thought that would be it, but with so many different responses from different people, I had to make sure. I'll make to sure that switch is part of my next order.
