I've searched and didn't get any results so here's my dilemma.

My buddy gave me his summit cause it wasn't working and I'm trying to get it fixed. When I turn it on the servos go crazy. Its almost as if the Tx is not turned on but it is. I get nothing on this thing at all. No motor movement, no steering, nothing. I've charged all the batts, and got new batts in Tx, so I know everything is fresh.

I've tried to rebind the Tx and Rx, but the esc will not go into program mode. Also, when I turn the esc on the green "ready" light will come on for a sec or two then turn off. This leads me to assume that the ESC is bad. I did read on traxxas forums that people have had similar issues and then after letting their rig air out the problem seems to go away. Needless to say, I have this bad boy airing out. hopefully tomorrow It will run.

Any info is welcome and appreciated. THX

keep us posted so we know
i have a summit and have not had any problems
mine has been in the water crossing creeks in the snow and alot more and still going

Make sure the tx/rx crystals didn't rattle loose. The esc will shut off if it doesn't receive a signal. If the crystals check out, I'm with Lessen. If it's a 2.4ghz radio, disregard my crystal statement and swap in another rx if one's available to you.

So I changed out the crystals set and I'm still getting the same problem. I disconnected everything from the Rx to see if it still needs to dry out. I'm going to let it sit a while longer before I take apart the esc. I really hope that its not the problem but the more that I work on it the more I'm beginning to think it is.

Replace the rig I mean electronics haha, sorry not a fan of the summit since they hyped it up to be some godlike rock crawler

By no means can this thing do what my ax10 and lnc can do. The Tx and trans are the best things on this thing IMO.

They look neet, never seen alot of custom summits but I think making it a trail blazer rig would be nuts, since it was free id mod it up

I've thought about modding it but I think what I'm going to end up doing is fixing it and handing it back to my friend. Had it been given to me by someone I just "knew" it would be different, but this guy is a real friend. So as a friend I'm going to get it fixed and get it back to him. Maybe I'll mod it a bit and then give it back to him, I gotta get it running first before I can do anything to it. :D

Posting this for information for others, like me, that have never come across this issue.
Turns out one of the steering servos was bad and sending back a negative response to the ESC causing everything to go bananas. I unplugged all the RX connections and starting with the ESC began slowly replugging from ch.5 on down. Everything worked until I got to the steering, that was when i replicated the issue. hope this helps someone else down the road.

thank you for the info profsrkos, i'm getting my summit in about a week or so, now i will know what to do if this happens. . .thanx a ton bud

One way to eliminate the problem is to do the Revo's singles servo conversion.

Not a problem. Just don't use yours like a submarine and I'm sure you won't have this issue being that the "waterproof" servos are 100% waterproof.:D

I'm going to look into that... but what servos have enough torque and are water proof? Aside from having to waterproof it myself.

Just got me a Summit this week myself. So interesting post. My first Traxxas too, so hopefully yours was just a fluke, as I've seen some serious water proof "testing" in videos... :P

I know what you mean about those videos. This thing has also been tested. :hehe: At least if yours has this issue later on down the road, you'll have an idea of what is wrong with it. I found out through trial and error. Learning usually is never painful.
