I can't belive my luck. So I break my foot and am stuck at home for the most part and now something else has to happen. Heres the story. 2 nights ago I'm siting in front of the computer just hainging out and a Mcafee Internet update pops up. So I figuar I havent updated my softwear in a while so I click on it and restart my computer. It comes back on and the internet wont work for crap. I try and try to get that sucker back up and goin, unplug my router and all that good stuff try restarting and turning my computer off numerous times with no luck. So I let it sit.

The next day same thing. The internet just wont load. Mind you the internet was working fine before I clicked on this thing. So my mom calls Mcafee and they admit that they messed up and alot of peoples computers are all F***ed after the update on 7/30/07 its even on the website. So now I'm internetless at my house untill they find a fix for the problem. And to top all things off my internet threw my modum dosent work and I called SBC and they said some ethernet card is messed up inside my tower. Now I'm pissed. Everything was fine before I clicked on that darn update and now poop hit the fan. I dont know what to do. It seems like its Mcafee's falt and they should have to pay to get the problem fixed but my mom dosent have the kahones to tell them that.

So here I sit at the public liberary using there internet because of some stupid f*** up that someone made. I have spent about 4 hours on the phone mind you trying to talk to someone on how to fix this and no one knows. So to say the least I'm a little pissed, what do you guys think I should do? I'm at a loss for words, and what to do anymore.

Ummm, your in a library... read a book?

Sorry, I had to say it. I'd have a hard time if I didn't have internet access. Although, that would mean I couldn't work when I was at home... McAfee what was that?

Mcafee is some a internet protection thing, stops pop ups, virus's, trojan horses, worms, ect... I just think its a bunch of crap I'm having to pay about 250$ I think so far to get this problem sorted out, betweet internet crap, and having my tower worked on. Its just a bunch of crap.

uninstall mcafee????? would be my first choice....see if that works...THEN call them and have them send the new update to your house via disk....

Thats what they told me to do, but they wont send me a new updated version, they want ME TO PAY!!! hahah ya right! And even if Mcafee gets going again theres no internet to protect lol. So till tomarrow I'm out, liberary internet time is up, frigin bull only 1 hour, ha. Anyway. Thanks and keep the sujestions rollin in because they will certinally be put to use.

Cept for the reading a book one olds lol!

well....I guess I would not run mcafee then.....to be honest...mcafee has had alot of troubles in the last few years with clogging up systems....uninstall it completely and get the internet back...and then be careful what you do....there are free online scanners as well....one is trend micro....hope that helps....

Do you mean to tell me you don't have Roxio GoBack? It solves any new problem in less than 10 minutes.
You can also go to System Restore, and back it up to the closest point prior to downloading the update. It's erased from your computer, and you're good to go till MuckinFee corrects their update.
No need to uninstall it.
PM me if you need any info.

roxio go back?? nope..never heard of it...besides, if you have to pay for updates...then boohoo on them.... :D

Roxio GoBack. It's bundled with Norton System. Before I install a program or an update download, I make sure it's on a fresh boot. Then, if there's a problem, or I realize I don't want the program, Roxio will back up the computer to a point I choose, such as the most recent boot, and when it's done, EVERY shred of the program is removed as though it had never been installed.
I can't imagine being without it. It's the very first program I install in a new computer. It's a lifesaver.

Like Rolex said, just use System Restore, though this is in Windows XP/Vista.
Or worst case, uninstall Mcaffee since it is their update and program that is blocking your internet.

Does the package include its own firewall? I think it may by default it turns its fire wall on.
Go into the preferences and disable the firewall included in the package.

I don't think it would be the actual ethernet card giving you problems either. I would agree with Eddy about the firewall. Another thing you might try doing is using a different browser such as Firefox or Opera.

Get rid of Macafee. That stuff is practically a virus, in and of itself. There's plenty of good free antiviruses out there.

1- get rid of mcafee.
2- network cards do go bad sometimes.
3- Worst case scenario just reinstall a fresh copy of Windows. As long as you dont reformat the drive or delete the partition all your files will be there but you just have to re-install all your programs.
4- get rid of mcafee.
5- Until I'm proven otherwise I will always tout Norton AV with either a VERY good customizeable personal firewall (Kerio or hell even ZoneAlarm) or at least Norton IS.

I have used both norton and mcafee, norton is the bigger resource hog of the two, in my opinion (based on using both). they both have their pros and cons, for sure.
firefox is awesome, in most ways. and superior to exploder. but... it has a HUGE issue with memory leaks on some systems. And runs very slow on pages that have flash. at least with my system. my system is a 3.4 ghz pentium IV, 3 gig of memory, and a 256 meg vid card, so more than capable of running a browser.
yes, check your firewall, for internet to just go "bye bye" seems weird to me.
or, just disable mcafee for a moment, or boot in safe mode and see if internet works then.

AVG FOR ME!!!

Its free and I have NEVER had any problems. Mind you my wife visits all kinds of stupid sites that used to clog us up.

Ditch that McAfee bloatware, and get something decent. If you're that concerned with security, get a copy of AVG Free (http://free.grisoft.com/doc/2/) for your anti-virus, and run Spybot S&D (http://www.safer-networking.org/) and Lavasofts' Adaware (http://www.lavasoftusa.com/products/ad_aware_free.php) on a regular basis. Install a copy of Firefox (http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/), and that is all you will need.

To prevent any future virus infections, stay away from Limewire or similar services, and quit goin to the porn sites.

I run that exact setup, and my PC has been goin strong since I built it, 11 months ago.

A note about McAfee; when you uninstall it, it will not completely uninstall. You have to uninstall a hidden portion of it that goes BALLISTIC when you uninstall the main program.

Yes, it really is THAT much pain to get rid of.

Well everything is back to normal now. Thanks for all the help guys. I keep mcafee, I just uninstalled the program, then reinstalled it with there newest update which was the fixed version. Now everything works perfect. Thanks again, next time some crap comes up like this I'm geting norton, my friend has that and it seems to work well for him. Thanks alot.

norton is the bigger resource hog of the two
If you run XP, it's NOPDB.exe, I believe, that saps up to 85% of resources at any given time, when you least expect it. You need to turn off "speed disk".
Its' default setting is automatic, and you need to disable it. It's part of the Norton program to scan your drive for percentage of fragmentation. When you want to defrag through Norton, just turn it back on manually.
Other than that, I think Norton is the best one out there.

Anyway, Bryson, Please, just do a system restore to a point before your download. Trust me. It's the easiest way out, and you'll be back to normal.
If MuckaFee knows there's a problem, then you need to remove their update.

Nothing like this EVER even gets me mildly upset, having used Roxio GoBack anytime there's even the slightest quirk from a download or program.

OOooh. I see he solved his problem. Well then.....for the rest of you, for future reference.

If you really want a trouble free system, look into running Linux OS. I have it on my home system for several years now and run for months at a time with NO reboots.. If you really need MS Windows for some stuff you can make your system dual-boot Windows and Linux. Best part of it is there are no virus and its FREE.
