My truggy gives me the same probs when running hard...stupid set screws! It helps if you grind em flat (more surface area) and use some max loctite on em. After that I had no probs.

After 2 more weeks of driving and racing, a couple things continued to bother me so I tore it all down again. The tz 18 is an awsome engine, but it is a little weak on low to midrange torque. I had an annoying bog coming out of corners, and revos, since they have a 1st gear, were killing me. I took off the dynamite 1/8 scale pipe and put on a Losi 1/10 pipe. It noticably improved low and, but also noticably reduced top end.

In addition I continue to have a problem with power-on understeer. Because of the low end bog, I was trying to maintain too much speed into the corners to keep it on the pipe, resulting in some funny but annoying crashes.

I figure the bog is mostly due to still-too-tall gearing, so I'm going to put on a 65 tooth spur the same way I did with the 60. Then I'm going to change all the diff oils to try to improve the understeer. Marty Korn who rules with the sut, recommends 10k-50k-3k from front to back, plus others have recommended 10k in front. I should have it running again by thursday.

50k w/a small block? whats in there now? maybe should use 30k instead for a start (presuming ur tires are strapped down).

understeer-front sway bar, squat blocks, and most notably. need to move down to medium front shocks instead of longs. that way can get front of truck down.

i've race last 3wks @ some informal races b'g held down in my area b4 track closes and gets moved. (noise complaints in a ritzy neighborhood). good fun, 25MT is gettin tired, as are many things on the truck that need to be addressed. b'g 1in narrower to those axle extensions come in hurts big time.

been real hard tryin to fight against those LSPs. i've lost twice where i got completely mucked up at the start and gave 1 too much ground i couldnt make up. 1 of them is loaded w/a P5 and its a lil too much on speed for my truck. he can use the motor to go thru some turns where i can't. the straight he can get away, i can go later on brakes but still i get left some. luckily last 2 races (well 3rd he didnt run, down broke) he's flamed out early. in which case i was able to throttle back and go easy on everything having plenty in hand over the traxxas trucks and other big blocks.

still idk what to do right now w/this truck. its in between like converted rc10s, jrx2s, and ultimas were b4 the jrxt and rc10t came out. better than blackfoots but lil match for the new trucks. goin native and/or longer CE chassis is a ton of $$$. more than a new race truck. idk.

keep at it w/ur smallblock work, makes good readin. find a pipe that matches that engine, work on clutch setup and take the best of what u got and make it work for you...know that u wont have it everywhere on people.

ps-hope to have my 1st SUT video online 2nite perhaps. had a lil gas left and things needed to be addressed on truck, so i went back out sat eve and no1 was there woohoo (guess its what happens when every1 else breaks).

Cool vid Ult, that is a fast track! Where is that?

The goal for my SUT is to improve snap out of corners and reduce power-on understeer. It took longer than I thought but its back together again. I put on a 65t spur, which was a chore. I had to cut the welds off the 60t spur, clean up the hub, and weld the new 65 back on. Then I had to raise the center diff and throttle servo even more.

I put in 10k-30k-3k oil front-to rear (took your advice for the center, ult), put on a rear swaybar, added a storm buggy wing and mount, and put on home made aluminum chassis braces. I moved the front tie rod links to the furthest forward holes for max ackerman effect. I also added a second set of pads and brake disc to the front, as I was getting some fade before. The 1/10 losi pipe on it reduces top end, so I'm going to try gradually enlarging the stinger tube.

I plan to race it tomorrow night and find out if all this sheit will do the trick. If not... :censored: Well actually I could still try shorter front shocks and anti squat arm mounts, as you said. but if that doesn't work....

No thanks Ult, I have 2 other storms already. I do want to get a chassis plate from the new SUT-CE truck, as its a bit longer. My brakes work so well now that it front flips over braking bumps.

I have been meaning to post here anyway, as the truck is working great. It does everything better now. I am going to try 50k oil in the center diff, but otherwise I can't complain any more. If I'm slow around the track its not the trucks fault!

I had it out on my track at home about 3 weeks ago and its still working great. Otherwise I haven't driven it much in the last couple of months. I bought a desert race 1:1 project truck in august and thats taking all my time and money lately....

I havent even seen the sut in 6 months! My 1:1 race truck is taking all my time still. Maybe I should start a members project thread on it...
