yea, i know what a starter box is. Just never heard of "bump start" thanks anyway.

Bump start is another term used for starter boxes. Did you get ewr running yet?

It took a while to get it running. I had to tweek my starter box setup and de-glue a set of tires for the new wheels, and luckily I had 6 mounted bow tie 40s to start with. Two gave their lives for the project. I hate de-mounting, but at least the oven trick works better than anything else i tried.

I ran 5 tanks by 8 pm, and by the 5th I was starting to hold it pinned for a couple seconds at a time. The OS tz18 is amazing. It starts immediately, idles like a rock, and makes big-block torque. The 3 needle slide carb is awesome, no bogs or flat spots anywhere. It ran at 205-220 the whole time. I used a .21 size elbow and cheap dynamite .21 pipe, but it worked great. I figured its making as much exhaust as a 21 anyway. OS is like the honda of rc. This may be the ultimate engine for 4wd 1/10 stadiums, like the kyosho or hpi mt-2.

The truck weighs in at 8.87 pounds, 8 lb 14 oz, or about 1/2 pound less than a revo. I didn't run it all out yet, but my setup is working well already. It is the best cornering dirt rc I have ever driven, including 1/8 buggies. There is virtually no brake dive and no wheelies, so I'm waaaaay ahead of revos there. The 40 bow ties and 23mm hex wheels worked great. The wheels are stout! Steering precision with the Airtronics 94358 is just excellent. Traction is much improved with 7k oil in the center diff. Tracking seems better too, but I wont know for sure until I get on it harder. It may still be geared too tall with 13/60. I will try a 12t cb, then consider making a bigger spur. Uhg, dont want to do that... All considered, it looks like my goals are met - Revo caliber performance without having to buy a bunch of new spare parts! WHoo hoo!

NICE SPUR GEAR MAN....LOL....Hey I know an easier way to make your gear...it's more pricey but it's bulletproof.......you never told me you had one of those gears made.....did you see if the files I sent are usable for ya to make the bigger ones???
anyway get a kyosho 46t center spur w/ the extra holes in it....then grind the teeth off......mount an OFNA center spur Ring gear from the PIrate or dominator (get the steel ones).....BAM....got a serious spur gear w/ a replaceable ring...and the kyosho spur will bolt right to your GS Cup...I'm using one in my mutant.....I'm drilling the plate this weekend...I'll send pics of my truggy project.....lol..it's only been in the modding stage for 6 months now......

Yes i did, I emailed you the 60t drawing. But the diominator gear is a good idea. How many teeth is it?

62t
I got your file, I just didn't have an easy or cheap way of making one w/ a bearing carrier.....I sent you some files to cut 62 thru 65 or 66t spurs....courtesy of Pratt & Whitney's gear design prog.....they have one that you enter all your requirements and it spits out the drawing you need.......anyway I still have em if you need......but the Kyosho/Ofna set up is pretty sweet...if I need some real low end I have a few 65t plastic gears I can run....they have a few sizes for that setup but I've only found the 55-57t and th e62t in steel......hey how hard is it to make a steel center plate to bolt those OFNA gears to?? I mean th Kyosho gear is like 45 bucks.....I have another like new one if you need it......

I drove it again yesterday but only two tanks due to the suns-spurs game. I leaned it out a bit and its starting to come alive. I'm happy with how it tracks under power, and the handling still amazes me. I guess there is nothing left to do but race it...

nice project ..from day one of racing a revo with my truggy .. and seeing them pit ever 12 minutes to my 7 i had my mind set on a tz and a lightened truggy set up... maybe on day in the future i will try it ...

good job tho ...

thats y you gap them significantly like you can and then its no issue w/mileage or not.

I did notice great gas mileage, even though it was running rich. Its a great engine.

hey scottm, could we see some videos of this thing? I am curious to see this thing go. I have never seen a modded car go. No one has the guts to mod their car. Thanks

eh, sometimes a car left stock is a good thing. many times throwin all kinds of crap, trick parts, or glitz yields not much gain, more headaches, more work, and a lotta $$$ in some cases.

on another front. shakin mine down. had a motor prob that i sorted. lil nigglin things in the steering are gettin addressed. should be good to race next wkend. we'll see how she goes. need to do just a tick of needle work, slight move of pipe coupler, and perhaps just a lil extra fuel line.

keep at it. hopin 2 get video soon.

I finally have some race results to report. This whole project was inspired by my frustration driving an rc10gt at the local track. My gt doesn't corner for poop - it either rolls, spins out or pushes under power. I know thats mostly poor setup of the diff and suspension, but it is also the nature of a 2wd stadium truck. Just 3-4 weeks ago I was coming in last or nearly last in the nitro st truck class.

Two weeks ago was my first race with the sut, in the monster truck class with a .18 engine size limit. No grief at all from the track or other drivers about my small engine SUT. I did ok, finishing mid pack of 6 or 7 drivers in each qualifier. The truck worked great with awesome power and cornering, I just wan't dialed in on the track. Then in the main the set screw in the front diff input came loose, so I only had rear wheel drive, at about 1/3 power due to the center diff, luckily I had 10k diff oil in it or it wouldnt have moved at all. So I finished last, but finished. I didn't race last week cause I was in Mexico for the Baja 500. I raced last night and did much better.

I won the first qualifier and got second in the second qual, taking the pole for the main. I lead the main race from start to finish, with a 1/2 lap lead at the end. Two of the best monster truck drivers were out of town for a race in Cal this weekend, but I think it counts! The sut was awesome, and I have no complaints at all. I can hardly wait til next week!

good deal, i raced last wk, had some teethin probs, but i'll be okay. will have another go this wkend i believe (weather pendin). keep me posted.
