Well i have a peak charger in the mail but until then I have a tower timed one. How long should I charge these 1500mah stick packs. It says if they are completely dead 20 minutes but I charged them 15 each and got maybe 5 minutes runtime in the esavage. Is this normal??

Hmmm..

Usual rule of thumb is to charge NiMH for 1 hour at 1C. NiCd can go half hour at 2C. I know there are a lot of other articles that say you can charge almost any reasonable capacity pack at 3 or 4 amps. But without having delta peak capabilities, I would be safe for now. So for a 1500 mAh pack, if it's NiMH, it's 1 hour at 1.5 amps. NiCd would be 30 minutes at 3.0 amps.

For 15 minutes of a charge, I'd say thats' fairly normal. When I started in R/C, 900-1000 mah was the high end stuff, and that barely got a person 4 minutes, even with a small pinion.

For a truck with as much weight as the E-Savage, I'd say 5 minutes is a ballpark runtime. A 4500+mah battery setup for it would yield at least 20-25 minutes, just based on simple math.

Also, once the peak charger arrives, I think you'll notice an extra minute or two. Those timer chargers just don't do the job like a decent peak will.
