I'm kinda partial to the Hyper 7. I think it looks better and IMHO Ofna builds a better buggy especially if your going to be racing. I'm not sure there is even a class For the HPI Trophy. I would go by your local track and see what there mostly racing first before investing in something. More than likely your going to find stadium trucks and buggies to be the most raced.

There not at my local track. I would check with your local track and see what classes they have and what most everyone is racing. My local tracks offer Electric stadium Novice and experienced class 1/10 1nd 1/8, Nitro stadium Novice and experienced class 1/10 and 1/8, and Buggy class same thing. They don't allow any thing more than 4S Lipo on electric and .21 nitro. I would say most everyone racing is running either Electric stadium on 2S Lipo or .20-.21 1/10 buggy. They do have a league that is for bigger buggies like the losi8 etc and you can run whatever you want but there isn't anybody or enough guys with truggies or buggies that race there so nobody runs in that class. I have a Revo with a LRP.28 and I've never ran it there because there's nobody for me to run with. I got out of racing years ago so I don't own anything race worthy anymore. I guess if I was going to get back into it even being as partial as I am with nitro I would still probably buy a Slash or stadium truck and run 4S lipo. They seem to do the best on the indoor track. That's just my opinion.

I don't have a track near me really. My soon to be father in law and I were thinking of building a track. So mainly we would be back at his house racing with sole buddies. Maybe that helps with helping me choose a buggy.

Oh ok. Well in that case I would get with your father in law and friends and see what they will be racing. Atleast that way it will be a fair competition. I mean really there's no rules in backyard racing but if your blowing everyone's doors off every race what's the point lol.

Which is newer the hyper ss or the hyper 7? I guess I have more info now than I did just a few days ago. Now I'm just trying to find the best RTR kit for the money. I'm going to try to stay around the 500 range

If your trying to stay in the $500 range I would buy a kit. You get all the upgrades and it gives you a great grip on what's involved in tearing down and replacing broken parts. Plus RTR models don't always work that great for racing. You will end up spending a lot of money on upgrades if you buy the RTR model.

if your racing at a track then check with them to see if .28s are allowed. as mentioned a lot of tracks wont allow them in buggies. Personally I prefer .21s in buggies anyway as they usually have higher RPM ranges and spool up faster. This is especially beneficial on small to medium sized tracks. If you buy a RTR with a .28 and your track doesn't allow them in buggies or you feel like you would rather go with a .21 then just ebay the .28 and put the money toward a .21 while the .28 is still new, you'll get more money out of it new.

As for the Hyper 7 and the HPI 3.5 here are my thoughts on them. I've never owned a trophy 3.5 but I've known a couple people with them and they are so-so IMO. I got the impression the quality wasn't as good as some other kits and the design is outdated. That being said for club racing I'm sure they'd be ok but I think they run something like $400 and if I was gonna spend that much on a kit I wanted to race with Id rather spend an extra $100 and buy an Associated RC8.2 which is far superior to the trophy or any of the OFNAs I'm about to mention.

The Hyper 7 is an extremely old design. The Hyper 7 design has been on the market for at least 10 years or more now. The design resembles the older much ehavier and less nimble designs they used to make like my OFNA 9.5MBX. They make great bashing kits but I wouldnt want to race one. Hyper 7s also come with the same Force JL .28 that the Hyper SS and the X3 Sabre does. Both the Hyper SS and X3 are much newer designs and much more race worthy IMO with the X3 being the newest design out of the bunch. That being said I'm less familair with the X3 than I am with the other OFNA models but if I was looking at an OFNA thats probably the one Id go with right now.

P.S. I just noticed that you dont plan on racing at a track...I pointed out a lot of this because in one of your other posts you mentioned that you wanted to race competitively. If you're not gonna even club race none of this stuff really matters much.

For $500 you can buy the Associated RC 8.2 RTR which can hang with the big boys in competitive racing with a few upgrades.

Well, if it's in your back garden then you can set your own rules, as for now I'd stick with .21 and see how you think of it
