Spurs are plastic for a reason. They act as fuses to keep from causing more serious/costly damage. The culprit is most likely bad gear mesh.
 
^^^ Agree with Metalhead....thy are plastic for a reason. I had a problem similar to this and it ended up being bad or even a couple frozen ones in the trans and the diffs.its was causing excessive drag and heatingmy clutch bellup to the point where it was meltings and the strippin spurgears.
