Hi, I’m new to this forum.

My Aeroscout battery isn’t charging after being in my closet for 2 years.

I first tried charging it with a chainsaw charger that had a safe output voltage, connected to an S150 smart charger. It either started beeping and flashing all the lights, or not gaining one bar of green for more than an hour. The light on chainsaw charger also sometimes quietly chirps and switches from green to red or red to green.
(Decided to unplug after)

I then tried to use an S120 smart charger, but its light went white for a couple of seconds, then red, and repeated doing that. It’s supposed to flash purple.

Both tries, the battery didn’t get hot, and it doesn’t have any visible damage.

I’m deciding to leave it up to the experts because I don’t want my house to burn down.

I dont think either of the chargers you pictured are adequate for your need. I strongly recommend that you read some of the threads on here about lipos and chargers so you can make an educated decision on what to buy. Never store a lipo for years without charging/discharging properly. The battery is likely no good.

Welcome aboard!!

There are a few reasons I don't care for Spektrum but I don't like ANY company that tries to lock you into their ecosystem. Cut ties while you can.
The difference in quality of Spektrum battery vs a 'good battery' has to do with inflated C ratings also.

Theres a LOT here but its well worth reading thru.
Ask questions, learn as much as you can before you spend a dime on anything you aren't 100% sure of!
I am also no guru of lipos, learning too. There's a lot of REAL smart ppl who can and will help you out if you put in a bit of effort and ask nicely. 😉👍

A lipo has multiple cells that need to be balanced with each other. Meaning the individual cells must have similar voltages throughout charging and discharging. Those type of chargers do a horrible job of balancing the cells which in turn damages the battery and can cause fires. You need to be able to see the cell voltages in order to properly maintain them.

The linked thread above is an excellent source of vital lipo knowledge. Its not complicated but it is VERY important to learn about them. If your only using 3s lipo's then batteries and charges capable of safe charging won't be very expensive.

Almost forgot, as stated above, ditch the spektrum 'smart' stuff. Gimmick all the way.

I currently can’t afford a new charger or battery. Is it possible to somehow get my setup to work without burning down my house?

When I have enough money, what’s a good charger and battery to use that is relatively cheap?

To answer your first question, no. The damage is done to the battery. Sitting for years unattended is certain lipo death.

Cheap is subjective. There are lots if cheap chargers out there but cheap is rarely good. Same for the lipos. Liperior's are relatively cheap and a very good quality lipo. Others I'd recommend are CNHL and SMC but I wouldn't say they are cheap. ZEE lipo's are cheap but dont perform very well.

To help better answer your question, what do you want to spend on a charger and battery? And what is the battery being used in?

I don't think I would trust 'Smart' technologies to not burn your house down. With a proper charger and a voltage mter, you could sit and monitor the charge to be sure theres no fire. I'd still charge it outside, away from flamables if you did.
My question though, how much do you pay for insurance?ore or less than the cost of a new battery?
Why are you insisting on chancing it?

The cheapest set up is prob going to be a new battery. And now you're back on the Spektrum train again.
Sometimes its better to pay a bit more to get a LOT more. 😉

This is a similar issue to yours. Read up here about dead cells and decent batteries.

I would preferably pay less than 150 dollars for battery and charging setup.

Are dead batteries dangerous to have around?

The above is good advice. Get rid of that thing. A lot of Lowes,Home Depot's take them.

For that amount of money, you can get a very good charger and a good battery, if not 2. I really like the Hota D6 pro. Excellent charger for around $100 and will do everything you need a lipo charger to do. There's a really good thread on here about chargers that gives you some other options but I stink at using the search function. Otherwise I'd link the thread for you.

As I said before, I'd look at liperior, SMC, or CNHL. All good performing batteries.

Taking advice from people with knowledge on the subject of interest is a wise step, but educating yourself on the subject is always better. I strongly encourage you to read through the wealth of knowledge stored here on thus forum before making any purchase decisions.

You might also invest in 1 of those cheap battery checkers, they usually have 7 or 8 functions including testing servos. Important thing is you need a quick way to get and idea what the individual cell voltage is , you shouldn't let a lipo cell drop lower than 3.0 volts from a nominal 3.7 volts and a fully charged 4.2 volts. More than likely the battery you have is way below 3 volts. There are good chargers in the $50 range foe an ac only 100watt charger. Most importantly get a full featured hobby grade charger that can charge and maintain as well as report full cell info. When not using and lipo it should be set to a storage charge level. The links above will explain what that is an why.

I skimmed through the posts. Great stuff. Just came in to reiterate they (LiPo batteries) all need to be treated with respect. From the, so called, top tier racing brands to the non-flashy plain sticker brand, all LiPo brands have a good/bad/ugly rap sheet if you travel across interwebs and bring up "the best" question. The fictitious C rating on LiPo packs... lots of good info, debates, articles out there on the "how" and "why" the numbers being inflated.

Nobody likes to read the manuals/fine print on safety or trying to put furniture together. Am I right?

Your's came with instructions??? 😍😎🤣

Excellent points!!! 👍

I found (find) it hard to read thru stuffy manuals aboit new products that I don't really understand. The data can be boring, esp when you're trying to decide whether to run outside and have fun with your new purchases or to sit inside and read manuals. 🙄 Still, they are a great source of good info.
its important to read and understand the manual and ALL the safety precautions BEFORE the first run, boring as that might be!

Having this forum to come ask questions about the things I don't understand has really been helpful. Lipo and brushless was sort of a big step for an old dog like me. It was pretty easy once I got going. I still have lots to learn too.
I feel like if I can figure it out, anyone can!!! 👍😎
