Been mulling over the idea of getting a truggie, it will be used for a little light hearted racing at my club meets and some bashing. By light hearted i mean I'm racing for just for fun rather than taking it a BIT more seriously like I do with the mugen, if you see what I mean.

The 2 choices I have so far, for sensible cost and being rtr are the LSP2 rtr or the Hong Nor X1Cr rtr truggie, with those in mind i've found that I can get a Lightning Pro 2 for around about £100 ($190) cheaper than the hong nor.

I'm think that the extra expense of the Hong Nor probably doesn't make it worth it given that I'm only "playing" at truggie racing. What do you think?

Don't have much experience with the Hong Nor or HB, but two others you should look at are the base model MBX5T and the HPI Hellfire SS.

The Mugen can be found for about $450.00 stateside and shares many basic parts with the buggy. Have been hearing some pretty good things about it. As for the Hellfire kit, I have one, and it's a whole different animal than the trouble prone RTR. It gets flogged regularly and walks away intact.

They aren't RTR's but you really don't need any more than what a buggy uses to run these. The .28 in my Hellfire is overkill.

The MBX5T has a lot of different parts. The MSR MBX5 conversion used a lot of the same parts but the new one from Mugen the MBX5T is a totally different animal.

I'd go with the Hong Nor!

What about the kyosho us sts? It's basically a budget minded truggy for the people who want to race truggies but don't want to take out a second mortgage on them. It comes with a computer radio too. All this for 400 bucks stateside. All you would need would be a high torque steering servo (they're pretty cheap now a days).

IMO, after seeing the ST-R and comparing it to the RTR or US version, there's too much stuff you need to upgrade out of the box. Find a used Pro kit and make it run from there.
