Very interesting. I had read some of that before.

One thing I thought about as I read through those is;

"I wonder how many people from this board looked at that and didn't have a clue who half or even 80% of the peole were" based on what the average age is of most of the people on this board....

Probably most of the viewers haven't seen their movies.

Very true. It''s kind of sad that history class is looked down upon so much. I would have never imagined that Charles Bronson was a tail gunner in a B-29. It kind of pisses me off that the heroes of today are so anti-American (not all, but a bunch are).

I watched all of those star's black and white movies when I was a kid. I still enjoy a few of them every once in a while.

Alot of the kids on here would probably go "what's a black and white movie?"

Isn't that when actors actually had talent and didn't have to rely so much on special effects?

Great find BTW. Guess old Charles Bronson always liked guns. I don't think I have ever seen a movie of his without a gun in his hands.

I don't remember John Russell.

I saw Donald Pleasance and thought of James Bond.

How come they didn't mention Elvis?

While Elvis did serve in the military. He didn't play a role like some of the others in that list.

I'll admit that I don't recall exactly what Elvis did in the service, I believe he was already somewhat famous and was not put in harms way.

Audie Murphy was one of the ones that appeared in "movies" because he was a war hero not just someone who served and got into movies.

I need to do a search on him. I remember my father telling me some stories about the courageous things that Audie Murphy did during WWII.

I know Audie had some post traumatic stress problems. Doing that one film where he played himself was real hard to film. Gotta give him credit for it.

If anyone finds others like the ones posted, email a pic and a quote from a source stating what they did and the awards they got, I'll update the page with the info. Doesn't have to be WW2 only (like just about all of the ones posted are).

Hey Guys,
I'm in the United States Navy, and have been for almost 11 years. Yes thats right Eleven years. I have to say that was a very informative brief. The heroes of today, are quite different than what we had then. Let me give you a little backgound about myself. Out of the 11 years I have been in, I have spent 7 of those with the USMC. I am a Hospital Corpsman. Basically we provide medical services to wounded Marines in Combat, and in garrison. The Marine Corps, and the Navy has changed in the 11 years I have been in. The comraderie is still there, and we still have the pride that we did of yester year. I have not been to combat, but I do have friends that have recently been there (Iraq), including one of my fallen brothers HM3 Michael Johnson. Anyway, today we talk not about the old people like the ones in the brief, but people like Walt Disney who was dishonorably discharged from the USMC. In the eighties, on Sunday evenings, when he would have his special movie on, behind him hanging on the wall would be a picture of his discharge hanging upside down. MC Hammer was once in the US Navy, I can't quite remember what he did, but I think he was a Quarter Master (which guides the ship). Richard Simmons who was discharged from the USMC for being overweight (beleive that) and Drew Carrey who was discharged honorably. And Bill Cosby who was once just like me a Hospital Corpsman. Those are the things we think of. Not to mention, everything else that comes along with the job. It's a job though, and I wouldn't give it up for the world. I like being in the US Navy. Just my .02

I think the talk of "fallen" or dishonarably discharged celebrities by today's troops based on your observation is typical of our society as a whole.

In today's world, society likes to tear down icons, likes to show that no matter what your status is or what good things you've done, you are a fallable human. Nothing is done today to preserve or create heros.

An example; the Jessica Lynch story. I believe the military was trying to rally support by the American people for our efforts in Iraq by creating a positive-feel good story. But the media was very quick to "report" the details of operation afterwards saying that the military was totally unopposed and basically walked in and got her, a walk in the park.

Recently I watched a special on the Red Baron. The show using current technology now credits the downing of the Red Baron to ground fire and not Roy Brown.

My point being that heroic stories I'm sure fueled troops and the people. Motivated them to continue the good fight. Think about how many flyers Roy Brown motivated, How many looked up to him and how that might have change had it been "thought" that ground troops brought down the Red Barron.

Then look in general at things like the Presidency. Clinton and his indescretions. Everyone of those known basically as they happened. President Kennedy and his indescretions kept quiet only till recently.

Society is different today....

Sorry about the rant, but just my opinion....

Good find error, thats cool. Todays hollywood is different, but they have always been mostly far left to fully marxist. Ever heard of Mccarthyism? That was senator Mcarthy, conducting public searches for communists in the US. Well, he found a bunch of them in Hollywood.

But some of todays actors, like Sean Penn and Alec Baldwin really steam my bean. I went on a rant about them in NA's thread "Paul Oneal" a few days ago, here, about half way down:

Yeah, saw that.

The one that really gets me is Martin Sheen. Sure he PLAYS the president on TV, but.... that aint the same as BEING the President in real life. Hollyweird kind of pisses me off at times. Spoon feeding people doses of what would be thought of as dogma. Saying one thing, all the while pissing on the deeds of others that gave so much for us to be free. Did you see the thread about internet access in Cuba, real freedom there, eh?

And here's something to ponder. As much as I like Mel Gibsons movies, I refuse to watch any of the Lethal Weapon movies, because of Danny Glover and his anti American stance (I should have said Anti Freedom stance, since he was so in favor of Saddam). Penn too.

and don't forget Harrison Ford and his almost anti- American sentiment.

IMO - Everyone is entitled to their own opinion. I may not like it but I am not going to try and change their mind. Their opinions wouldn't make me stop watching the movies they are in or the music the play.

Case in point I listen to alot of music, including Country. Some of you may know the Dixie Chicks made some of the most stupid comments about Bush and the war and I sure didn't agree with them but I still enjoy listening to their music.

I was enjoying just reading this thread up until the last few posts. Don't get me wrong, I'm not crapping on this thread. I am just agreeing with a lot of you.

In todays society, I think liberalism has just gone hay wire. Yes everyone has freedom of speech and should excercise that right, not abuse it. Case in point ...

I have an acquaintance who is a loud mouth, wanna be reporter who grew up overseas and immigrated here. He made a statement about the war being of no use and is only an "oil war" in reality. I jumped down his throat when he said that. I told him that whether he agrees or disagrees with this war is his own opinion. I told him that this war may be new, but it's also to liberate a country just like where we are from ... the Philippines. It was WWII and it's beleifs that gave us the choices we have today.

What made it worse is that he calls the USA a land of forgotten morals so that is why he is sending his child back home because he doesn't want her to be "influenced" by the american "ideals." WTF! that's why he immigrated here ... for the "american dream! And yes, I told him that too. Basically told him to go back home if all he is doing is leaching the american wallet for all it's worth. Because he wants to work then retire here and take his social security check back to the Philippines where it is almost P57 pesos to the American dollar. I basically and bluntly called him a whore since all he is doing is fiddlesticking the american for money. (Sorry, i usually don't use foul language in my posts, but he pisses me off.)

Another example of how twisted todays society is is what I saw in Bergenfeild, NJ a few months ago... just outside a local high school. I saw kids walking around with placards saying "Stop buying SUV's ... you're supporting the Oil war, Sadam & Bin Laden." These were kids not even old enough to enlist let alone protest a war they know nothing about!

I stopped, since I was driving an SUV, and told them I'm not supporting the war by driving this Tahoe, I'm helping the working american. (OK, OK ... yeah it's a gas guzzler but I do use it for bringing a few people around and it stays in the garage except for when it's needed and on the rare weekends.) I also told them that the reason they can speak out in the manner they were doing was because of what wars like this one is fighting for ... human freedom, not oil.

All in all ... I am proud of our boys over there and I'll be damned if I let anyone say anything against them. God Bless 'em.
