I have a Slash 2wd and a Slash 4x4 ultimate. The motor in the 2wd is shot. I was thinking about moving the ESC and motor from the ultimate to the 2wd and buying a 3s upgrade for the ultimate. First does this make sense vs. just the BL-2s upgrade for the 2wd. I'm thinking for a little more money I can upgrade both cars. What motor/esc would you recomend for the ultimate?
Thanks,
Chris

I would not run 3 cell in either of those rigs. Id stick to 2 cells unless you like repairing them..Id go brushless censored then no stall Any 540 size motor and 1/10 scale brushless esc could work( havent read any dual motors in awhile)brushless Non censored and censored That is the dual iam talking about

Yes, the esc and motor combos between all the 10th scale traxxas cars are the same.

Hobbywing 10BL120 G2 sensorless (3660 combo) or Max10 G2 sensored (3652 combo)
Thanks. I think this is the path I'm going to take. The EZRUN MAX10 G2 Combo (80A ESC + 3652 G3 Motor) looks perfect especially for the price compared to Castle.

I thought the Ultimate was built for 3s? I really couldn't understand the rest of what you were saying.

I've run 3S in my Slash 4x4 without damaging any drive line components, although you should set your slipper pretty tight. I've replaced mine with a center diff (like the Hoss comes with).

If the 2wd has the 272R transmission, 3S works in it as well, but is really over-kill with the 3500Kv motor. Too much wheel spin in mine. Again, you'll want that slipper pretty tight!

I love those raptors. That one and the Raptor r are on my list 😂

Thanks, I think I will go the center differential route on the Ultimate. Should I change the stock gearing on either truck? I will only be running 2s in the 2wd slash and occasionaly 3s on the Ultimate.

Check the Traxxas recommendations for gearing with 3S vs 2S, but I run a 22T pinion with an 83T spur in my 2WD.

Slash 4x4 is the stock 13T pinion / 54T spur

I should add, if you haven't already, invest in an IR thermometer, and keep an eye on your motor and esc temps.

I use this one: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0BBMR9L78/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Thanks, Would the Traxxas recomendations still apply with a more robust motor and ESC like the EZRUN MAX10 G2 Combo (80A ESC + 3652 G3 Motor)? I do have an infrared thermometer.

So when moving the motor from the Ultimate to the 2wd slash I noticed the spur gear is shot. Should I replace with a metal spur gear?

No, not necessarily. Plastic spurs will hold up just fine as long as your mesh is set correctly.
