Hi. I am going to break my Kyosho TR-15 Stadium Force in shortly. Should the wheels of the truck spin when it is placed on a stand.

Also, do you think I have ruined break in. I couldnt start my car up, and I pulled about 200 times. I then adjusted it abit, but It still wouldnt start, so I held full throttle on the control. I managed to get it started but the throttle rod came loose from the servo and the throttle stayed at wot and it was LOUD. It managed to cut off after about 2 seconds. Do you think I have damaged the engine? Since then, I have adjusted some things, and I have managed to get it started for about 5 seconds idling nicely.

Josh

I don't know anything about the vehicle in question but highly doubt that it matters. I don't think any r/c vehicles wheels should ever spin at idle, lifted or not. As for your little break i issue I don't have enough experience in that department. All I know is that I followed the instructions by manuf. the 1st and only time I've done it and it turned out ok.

As far as the wheels spinning when in the air, I'm assuming the engine is running.ur idle is set too high, so close the carb all the way, then using the idle screw adjust the carb so its open like 1mm-2mm.

For the engine, the engine shouldnt get close to WOT in the first like 3 tanks. the 1st tank should be all idle, not even touching the throttle. the break in process is a big part in the pinch with the piston and sleeve. The better break in process the better the engine will run. Make sure ur glow starter is charged up all the way, the glow plug is still good, fuel in fresh.

OK Thanks... Another question. I dont know whats wrong with my engine. It takes ages to start, and when it does, it only goes for a few seconds, and no smoke comes out of the exhaust, and it really smells. The head also becomes quite hot in those few seconds.

Do you guys know whats wrong.

thanks
josh

go back to the factory settings, see if that helps. also make sure u prime the engine by either pushing a button on the fuelt ank a few times tillt he fuel reaches the carb, or put ur finger over the exhaust tip, and pull the pullstarter a few times untilt he fuel reaches the carb. make sure ur glow starter isnt on the engine.

It is factory settings. What do you mean "make sure ur glow starter isnt on the engine" When you have your finger over the exhaust?
Do I not need to make it richer. If so, how... In my engine manual (GT15S-CR), it says the low-end throttle is pre-set. Does that mean you can't adjust it.... I tried turning that small balck screw, but the carb doesn't move.

Josh

well u dont want the engine to start with ur finger over the exhaust. So dont have the glow starter on the glow plug when priming. I take "pre-set" as factory set. when adjusting the carb settings, clockwise(right) will lean it, counter-clockwise(left) with richin it. only do 1/16" to 1/8" adjustments. u could richin both needles up 1/16" to see if that makes a difference. i read ur other thread having to do with the carb, just leave the idle as is, 1-2mm is good.

Check your clutch spring to see if its damaged. Usually a broken or stretched spring will engage the clutch shoes at idle making the wheel spin.

should the exhaust spit, when breaking in

excess oil will will come out of the exhaust, especially if the engine is rich.

wow dude, you are new at this i see. Take it in to your LHS, and have them break it in and ask them the questions. They'll usually do it for about $15/hr, and you learn a lot from the expirience too.

Should he have them drive it too? Go bashing or racing with it? Maybe even sell it back to them? People come to forums like this asking for advise or help to save money, not spend it. How much harm does it do to answer a question or two?

i guess ur right, its just it would be a lot easier for him to just go to his hobby shop, and learn the right way, because it's a lot easier to see it first person. That's what I did anyway...
