I have an older stampede that u would like to make faster. Currently i havr 6 cell nimh with 23 toot pinion and 90 tooth spur. It has a reedy radon 17 turn 30k rpm brushed motor and a xp sc200 esc. Also i have in my tool box a 25 and a 29 tooth pinion and a 83 tooth spur. I read the manual for the newer stampede and it sez higher gearing needs more volts. What are the adgantages, disadvantages, possible setup problems or pergormance gains with the setup i have and the xtra gears i have? Any input wood help. Thanx

Pros: faster, more power. Lighter etc
Cons: if not taken care up you can have them spontaneously combust. They are more expensive. And more finicky.

You need to make sure to program your esc to LiPo cutt off and you need to buy a LiPo balance charger.

And if its speed you are looking for I would go brushless as well

Nimhs voltage drops fairly quickly whilst Lipo holds the voltage up for most of the run.
Yep you'll need a lipo charger.
You'll need a lipo that can handle the amps of the esc and physically fit in the old stampede. To small amp rating and the lipo will strain.

My esc does have low voltage cut off, but in the specs it sez voltage range 4.8-8.4v. Will i fry the esc with 11.1v???

pick yourself a castle sidewinder new off ebay for about $55-65 bucks. They will do up to 3S brushless and can also run brushed motors too until you can get a brushless motor. Just a thought.

Actually that is the "C" rating or the discharge rate not the amps. Most current 1/10 scale ESCs that I've seen require at least a 30c discharge rate battery. Castle Creations recommends 35c or higher for theirs. Any lower than the mfrs. c rating and you will actually toast the ESC not the battery. 2s LiPos aren't shabby with the right gearing combo. I run 2s on all of my electrics except my mERV.
