I bought a Thunder Tiger tamohawk vx a few years ago and i crashed it into a chain link fence. the guy at my local hobbie shop was able to help me put it back togather but it hassent worked the same since then. it was an rtr so that is why i am hessitant rebuild it. Does anyone have any advice for me?

One thing I like about the VX is its shaft driven 4WD, not belt driven. Parts are readily available, I think it's worth saving.

When you say it hasn't worked the same, could you be more specific? If it's a matter of turnbuckle adjustment/ alignment that's pretty minor stuff.

If you have engine issues, don't bother fussing with the TTR .18BX. You're better off upgrading to a OS.18 CV-RX (OSM11880) or something similar.
The .18CV can be bought for about $150.00

The engine never stays tunned and parts break regularly, i don't drive it verry rough either so thats why i think something is wrong. Also whenever i have to change parts the engine always goes out of tune, is that normal

What parts have you replaced?
What parts are breaking regularly?
How much fuel have you run through your engine?
Did the engine hold a tune before the crash?

Ambient temperature changes can effect your tune so you need to adjust accordingly.
But my guess is you have an air leak somewhere such as the fuel tank, fuel tubing, or exhaust system possibly caused in the crash?
Could also be the engine itself with an air leak somewhere.

I know little about Thunder Tiger, but for all intents and purposes have heard they are a good deal (meaning though they have a low price point, they won't fall apart on you). I have a friend with their MT4 and he puts them just above Traxxas with respect to durability/performance. Nitrotrout is one of the Thunder Tiger experts on here, so you are in good hands with his feedback.

I would not allow the fact it is a RTR deter you from rebuilding it. If you think it has potential, and there are a selection of parts available, go for it! Being an on-road vehicle I imagine focus would be on performance over durability?

Let me be more specific about the crash. I had a freind over and he opend my HSN whe i wasn't looking . So when i went to go start it, it went straight to full idle spun around and crashed into a chainlink fence.

Parts break at random and as for the parts I've replaced so far here's the list: engine head, fuel tank, throttle servo(x2), pull start(x2), reciever, and ice recently purchesed a new ghex start system. I'm pretty sure thats it but there may be more ( all of these were post crash).

My guess is your buddy adjusted the idle screw to it's full open position or positioned the linkage to wide open throttle. Whatever the case may be, your buddy needs to fish slapped. :trout:

I think the best thing to do is start from scratch with your carb settings.
http://manuals.hobbico.com/ttr/6194-f-manual.pdf
Pages 7-9 of the manual will show you all the reset carb settings.
Also use a fresh glow plug, fuel, fuel tubing, and batteries. Process of elimination will narrow down your list of engine problems.
Once you get your engine started, lightly spray some WD-40 around the carb (not down the carb throat), if the idle increases chances are you have an air leak which will give you tuning headaches.

I know first hand the factory RTR servos are weak, is that why you replaced the throttle servos or were they damaged?

Did the pull start cords snap in attempts to start it?

@Nitro Nerd, thanks for the kind words, bruddah! I'm in no way a TTR expert, just a TTR enthusiast. :mustache: Your friend is pretty accurate with his assessment of TTR products. Not top notch, but not bottom of the barrel either. Some people knock them for being made in Taiwan, the engines they produced for the early AE MGT's left much to be desired but.. Replacement parts are plentiful, their cars are reasonably priced, and their buggies did win some world titles with Driver Richard Saxton back in early 2k. :first_place:

Yes the throttle servo went twice, but I'm pretty sure it was because i was using very low batteries and the pull start broke twice, the guy at my local hobby shop sold me a hex atarter (aka drill starter) recently that i havent really been able to use.
