I'm wanting to get a faster servo but the last time I bought a raw 500 and my stock truck couldn't even power it. I'm wondering if anyone knows of a servo my slash can handle without needing a bec? My slash is a simple BL2S model.

Sure your servo was plugged in right? Should be able to handle 6.0v.

I use 9iMOD Brushless servos from Aliexpress. They’re cheap and it’s what I can afford.

If you’re willing to pay more and wait less I’d go with what everyone else will recommend. But if you’ve got more time than money, (like me) then 9iMOD is great.

Yeah, 9imod work fine for me, I have a 35kg and a 45kg.

But that's clearly overkill for a Slash 2wd. A 10-15 kg servo is enough and it won't pull as much current causing the ESC to brown out.

Get something cheap I'd say, unless you race.

Power HD B5S is my favorite servo rn. Pretty good speed ratings at 6v for a sct. Although being 80 bucks, it's more of a race servo and I don't believe it is waterproof.

9imod from what I heard is really good I'll be trying one of their servos out in my Typhon once I have money to complete the build (lol 😅)

Lower end Protek, savox, ecopower, JX servos, they're pretty good too.

Anything Traxxas servo related is overpriced.

What is scratching my head is why the servo you got wouldn't work. You sure you plugged it into CH1 slot 1 and in the correct orientation?

Reefs RC aluminum case and brushless?
If so that's a really good servo and 140 bucks. Contact them and see if you can do some kind of warranty or repair if it truly doesn't work. 32kg and .11sec/60 at 6v is amazing specs.

Adding on to what @nino said about brown outs, is try to add a capacitor or glitch buster cap to CH3 if it's not being used and see if that helps it to work.

I use injora servos. Can get them on Amazon and come in a few different specs. Been oval and off-road racing with them in slashes. They are cheap and good, only downside is that I don't think you can repair them but for $25-35 that's not much.more than a savox rebuild kit

AFAIK all ESCs, like your BL-2s, have battery eliminator circuitry (BEC) already built into them. Maybe you meant a separate UBEC/BEC to power a servo directly from the main battery? Anyway, there is no reason that your stock ESC shouldn't be able to power that Reefs servo. It's operating range is 4.8~8.4v. Weird indeed.

Even if you were to stall the servo, it would be for a brief moment I would think.

If you want to work within "specs"... your ESC's BEC is said to be rated at 6v/3A.

Yeah, its max current is over the spec at 4A but a light Slash shouldn't load it that much. A stuck crawler would be a different story. :)

External BEC would probably solve it but a decent one costs as much as a decent servo, sooo...

One idea, OP: did you set the endpoints so the servo doesn't stall out trying to bend the A arms when you turn full lock? It's an important part of setup!

I bought one of these for a maxx. I over powered it because I was afraid it wouldn’t do the job. It’s a 55kg.

The problem is the tabs are too thick to go in the Traxxas servo adaptor. So, I put the stock one back in it for now.

I’m looking forward to getting it in a car. Probably use it on my revo build as a single servo. If it performs like it looks, it should do the job for sure.

What do you think. Will it do a good job in a revo nitro?

Thankfully, a person can find the specs on servos easily enough... most of the time. Yeah, that servo may have a bit more material on the mounting tabs than some other servos. My beefiest servos mounting tabs measure 2.5~2.8mm vs the 3.2mm on your 9iMOD servo. If not wanting to Dr.Emel/file/modify things, then time to go shopping again.

What's the adaptor's measurement for a servo's tabs to sit into?

I was thinking about sanding it down. So much so I went ahead and ordered the hot racing servo horn

The Traxxas adaptor I’m not sure on. Other than the other standard size servos I have fit it like a glove. It’s the tabs on the 9imod as you stated.

Thanks for the heads up though. And, as far as the specs on the servo’s, I was aware of that. But, was unsure if this servo was marketed better than it actually is. I’m fixing on finding out. Thanks again.
