The LED flickered rapidly and eventually turned off, I checked the connections and it’s fine, what caused this?

My guess is that its the ESC/receiver. Contact Axial for a warranty claim.

Plug the led into your brother's ESC to confirm it's not the led. Do the same with your brother's led(into your ESC)

Sorry i couldn't help but laugh at the fact its blinking ;)

The first thing i blew on that model is the steering servo. not the led lights lol
Perhaps try what @Xraycer mentioned.

if that didn't work try fiddling with the wire it self - move it slightly and see if anything gets worse or improves and if it does,
the wire is upset and doesn't like to be in a certain position(bad wire)

I tested it in my brother’s SCX24 and it was still blinking then eventually shut off. I don’t mind that an LED died since it doesn’t add to the performance and is honestly way too bright for my liking.
I think the resistor on the LED died.

LED's will do that when they are bad.
