This is an old post but when I saw it I remembered a guy I used to work with. Did some awsome paint jobs on bodies and decided to rebuild a truck. Painted the body ice and flames and went farther to polish and detail the chassis. All servos and shock towers were Ice blended with fire. This car had about the most orginal paint scheme I'd ever seen.(this was about 10 years ago). Everything was polished or painted to match. Even the gas tank. Not only could you not see how much fuel was in it but it seemed to heat up more and built more pressure.

Let me start my nitro career breakdown....

I think the stupidest thing I've done is get into this hobby :D

First off, here I am, dropping 450 bucks on a used nitro buggy (1st mistake)

Stupid thing #1

I take the buggy out, my first time driving her.... Blipping the throttle I'm very happy with the RB it came with, flipping it once I didnt notice ripping the extensive length of antenna cord I had hanging out off the receiver.... I give it WOT and it shoots off uncontrollably towards a fence post. I shattered the lower arms in the front, the diff case and bent the chassis.

Stupid thing #2

Thinking I had the problem fixed, I pulled the RB (thought it had too much power) , and installed a brand new OPS engine. A real screamer... Unfortunately I forgot to cushion my servos against the wonderful RF creating servo tray... i take my new engine out to tune it and pull a WOT run again, this time my buggy attempts to climb a tree, twice. I get it turned off and attempt to fix my problem... again...

Stupid thing #3

I finally think I have fixed my RF problem. I have cushioned and reinforced everything I can think of, minus the servo tray because I'm retarded... I take my new engine to a race to show off. It had been raining, so it was nice and muddy on the track... I'm making a few passes on the track before anyone gets there and do a WOT down the straight (which by the way, directly points towards a canal) the buggy is running strong, and you know the rest.... It decided not to stop when I let off, it slammed into the chain link fence at WOT after jumping the track guards, it climbed the chain link fence repeatedly TRYING to make it into the canal...I made it to the buggy, to find it had flipped over on its lid and turned off. I was nervous and pissed, but little did I know that my clutch nut had loosened, allowing my engine to run at WOT with no tension against it from the drive train. I blew my new engine.

Needless to say, this long post was to show my retardation at this new hobby... Since all this (minus a few other unavoidable crashes) , I have a great running buggy, cushioned servo's and a $25 fail safe.

All in all, my newness cost me over $500 at least, for a $25 part I could have had less headaches...

:bowned:

I've broken 2 gas tanks so far on my savage. I also have a RS4 3 SS but i REALLY wanted to drive the savage so I attempted to mount the little 75cc tank on there. I mounted it under the roll bar...higher than the carb... I went out to start it. I went to prime it and weird...it is already primed:confused: Oh well, i went to start it and it had more compression than anything i had felt before! I thought it siezed until i got it to turn over once. So i took off the plug to see if it was flooded... I yank the started amd fuel sprays all over me, my friend, and my dad. It must have shot about 50cc out because i look at the little tank i mounted and it is 3/4 empty.

Lesson learned: Don't try to mount a little tank above the carb.:D

I had a 'blonde' moment at the track yesterday. I got off the track for a refuel, and started to bs with the guys while taking a break. 10 minutes later, I went to restart it, and it only ran a few seconds before stalling. I spun the starter and nothing. Took the lid off and changed the glow plug. Nothing. Spun the starter, and plugged the pipe to prime it. Nothing. Pinched the line and spun the starter to clear the carb. Nothing.
Someone finally pointed out the empty tank.

LOL!

aww man I just had a dumb moment. Dirt was stuck in a screw so I couldn't get the screw driver in, so me being my genius self decide to clean it out with nitro blast, and much to my suprise it shoots into the screw and right back in my eyes. And as some other members have mentioned I had my time of seeing spots for 2 weeks.

first day i got my car i put it into a puddle at full throttle, gone were the radio systems!!!!

I tried priming the engine by blowing through the pressure line. It primed the carb just fine, right before it primed my mouth. I spent the next 10 minutes swishing SunLight. Don't know what tasted worse. It was TopFuel too, so it had a nice purple-puke look to it. To top it all off, my friend saw the whole thing, so I haven't lived it down yet. I'm just glad he didn't drop his cigarette.

I'm sure your more glad you put yours out!

I've NNnnnneeeeeeeevvvvveeeeeeerrrrrrrr made a mistake. Everything I do is perfect! At least until I wake up in the morning. I've stripped about every screw I own, trashed 2 sets of al bulks do to broken off screws. My most recent mess up was a porting job gone horribly wrong... getting a new engine next week. C'mon tower!

Umm... Let my son drive my bros Tmaxx..Throttle lever on carb got stuck and ran away..Hit a tree at WOT then bounced off that to hit a Mini van. I am glad to say that the TMAXX won without much damage but scratched.

Mini-Van- 0 , Tmaxx 2.5-- 1 , My Son -- Bonus points for not breaking the Maxx.

We left soon after that happened.

when i first strated into r/c's i got a monster pirate rtr i also bought one of them handheld bump starters so i go and run my can and for some dumb reason the car was going backwards and this truck does not have reverse so i thought i did something wrong ummm yeah dumb me i had the starter turning the wrong way and it started backwards and it took me a long time to figure this out i didnt know it would run backwards but it does i felt like a stupid ass i had all my friends there to watch my maiden voyage!!!

I think I mentioned this before but... cleaning up overspray on a body... with acetone. Well, it took the paint off

I have a problem with over tightening screws and such too. I over tightened the glow plug in my Pro .15 just a little too much. I started it and ran it for a few minutes and then I saw heard a slight pop and saw something fly up into the air. The glow plug shot about 4 feet in the air and it turns out I got some shavings inside my engine when it blew out and totally scratched up the piston head. It was pretty cool but yeah. Luckily I had a new TRX 2.5 on the way courtesy of robmob. :) I have yet to get my truck running though.

Later.

The other day I decided to run my X-Terminator. I remembered to put fuel in the tank and to prime. I thought I was off to a good start, so I put on the glow ignitor and pull the starter and the thing took off at WOT. I startled me so much that I fell over and a smack. I look over to see my X-Terminator up against a tire on my brothers car with one wheel in the air spinning wide open. The tire was HUGE!!! Anyway, it turns out that I never even turned the Tx on or the power to the servos/Rx on. I was 0 for 2 on the day with radio stuff. But wait...I also had the wrong Tx in the first place!!! I was sooo pissed of I was about to through the buggy at my brothers car. So the final score for the day was radio stuff-3, me-0.

Hahaha, I've done that once. Started it up without any power to RX or TX and it scared the S*** out of me. Luckily it died and I was still holding onto the truck. lol

Another time I was messing around with my friend doing some backflips off of a ramp in the street. I pulled one with my Maxx and the EZ Start motor fell out and went into the sewer. It's a good idea to make sure everything is tightened down sometimes.

i tried starting a generator and it would not start so i poured alot gas in the carb then still no start, i pulled the plug out to check for spark i gave it a big pull and woof up in flames the bad part it was sitting in the back of one of my workers vans and toasted a few things i was like what a dumb ass

I was over at my friends house and I was cleanin somethin, I don't remember what, but I had a bottle of Paint Thinner on the table and it was open. And a friend of my friends came over and thought it was water and he was smokin a ciggarette. So he decided to put his ciggarette out in the bottle of "water".
It was pretty funny. Nice flame about 4 inches long singed all the hair on his hand and gave him a nice blister along the tops of his index and middle finger.

RC accidents.

#1) I bought a Duratrax Axis........

#2) Replaced it with Storm Pro and OS RZ V01B and promptly dumped upside down in large puddle...sucked water into engine...it broke..badly..

#3) While at offroad meeting used a disposable barbeque (for lunch) on a couple of bricks, finished cooking and let BBQ cool down and put in rubbish bin. Then went to move the bricks, forgot that they would hold heat much longer and promply picked them up...burnt both thumbs and all fingers badly couldn't drive for rest of meeting and driving home hurt like hell.
