i guess this goes here anyway here goes...

i got this venom 1200 rx hump pack on my buggy.. i have went through 2 (almost 3) radios on this thing and i think its the battery.. i discharged it and recharged it about 5 times to see if that would help.. i use a set of chevy low beam headlight lamps wired in series to discharge.. and it leaves the pack about 2.4v with no load.. when i recharge the pack useing the vision peak charger (thanks again eddy!!) when it stops the readout shows 7.2 - 7.4 volts.. again not under load.. is this right?? I've heard that anything over 6v will kill a rx but this is voltage with no draw on it..it drops to like 5.5-5.8 if i put it on the mega and turn on the discharge.. the pack looks new and there are no frayed wires.. sometimes the radio will last 2 tanks (2nd one) and sometimes 8 - 10 (3rd one i took off when it started glitching so it wouldnt fry it) any ideas?? anyone know how to see if the pack is still good?? cmon electric guys!!! you guys were discussing the inner workings and trace layout of a hand built peak charger... i know you got some knowledge of this stuff!!! HELP ME PLEASE befor i blow up another radio!!!

If you are using NiMh or the nickel metal hydride then you don't have to discharge. In fact you want to leave a little charge in them if you are going to store them. I store them with a charge if its going to be more than a week which hardly happens. I am running now more then ever.

The voltage is fine.
The moment you put a load on it, it will drop to about 6+.
99% of all RXs will handle 7+ volts without issues.
I wish it was your answer but you will need to keep looking.

befor i did the discharge/recharge cycle for 5 times it was setting at like 8 volts.. i think one cell was over voltaging.. dunno ima try the aa's to see if it still messes up..

One of my RX packs charged up to 8.1 V. I have yet to see a performance drop.

I made my packs out of 5 2100 (or 2000) Mah AA's (NiMH). I've been using the same packs for 2 years worth of bashing. I cycle them about once every few months with a brake light bulb from my intrepid that I had.

Anyway, I charge them up to 7 - 7.3 and I run them in my 1/8 buggy and savage at about 2 hours a piece on a good day (when I don't break parts). I run hitec 645mg's on both my rigs for steering and throttle/brake.

The only time I've had one go dead was in the winter when it was about 15F outside. It died in an hour or so, but it also got wet.

Other than that, I don't notice any difference from when I start bashing to when I stop. Like I said, I go for about an hour with each vehicle at a time. Then if all parts are still unbroken, I"ve run as much as 2-3 hours on the pack not noticing any difference in output speed of the servo's.

I"m running an airtronics receiver (92836). I also run the some of the same batteries I made the packs out of in my xmitter (2000 MAH NiMH Radio Shack).

One of the packs has 2000 MAH NiMH radio shack batts, the other has 2100 MAH NiMH energizer or duracell rechargables.

Just trying to help give you a gauge of what you can run. I've been running the radio shack batteries for almost 3 years in the xmitter. I charge it up with a wall charger to 11.1V in the radio. They still hold their charge for my 3-4 hour bash sessions. After about 2.5-3 hours, it drops down to 10V or so on the readout.

well... hell.. thats all i could think of.. eccept for the charge lead on the switch being fraid but that didnt have juice unless the switch was off.. but i cut that off and just unplug the battery to charge it now.. the servos are new and not fraid.. damn guess back to square one..
