That was really cool. If you think about the amount of things that have to go right....its amazing

Yeah I was pretty excited to see some great pictures and when I saw the first batch I was pissed. All of that cash for POS low res B&W camera. Then later in the program they mentioned they do have a high res color camera onboard. They are expecting to get color pictures some time next week.

From what it sounds like NASA has no control over Spirt. It was programed on Earth and now its just carrying out what it was programed to do. I guess we aren't quite far enough to be able to remote control things on a different planet. One day we will. And that would be an awesome RC!
 
i dont see why we can't? If we are able to transmit and receive photos, why not transmit and receive other ones and zeros that tell a computer commands such as move left, go forward, ect...?
 
I believe they can send commands but there is something like a 8 or 9 minute delay before the rover reacts.

that would make sense - but if it was moving at slow speeds in wide open areas, i dont see why that would be a problem.
