Hi everyone,
I am new to both this site and RC Nitro trucks. I purchased my first RC eNitro 'HPI Monster King' about a month ago. I have learned a lot since I started but still feel clueless and get nervous sometimes when dealing with them. I have some questions I wanted to throw out there so I could learn more about how these things operate.
1. Lately, when I fire it up it just wants to take off immediately. I have the throttle trim set properly 'so I think'. Will this happen if the batteries are going dead?
2. If I ever fire this thing up and it just takes off, what do you do? Chase it down and hope that it flips over or something. I've been using a cenderblock so this can't happen.

I appreciate any tips and tricks out there.
Thanks very much

Welcome to RCNT, and welcome to nitro!

1. Your clutch sping is probably shot. Pull the clutch bell off, and if you have a 2-shoe clutch, check the spring. In my case, the loop on the end broke off. There is an easy fix for it. Make a new loop. Best way to put it back together is to put the shoes together on your work surface, connect the end of the spring, and wrap it around the shoes. Then slide the whole thing on the flywheel pins. To avoid this issue again, cut off the loop on the other end too, and then loop it, make sure they hook well. I use about 2-3 rounds on the end of the spring. You may want to look into getting a 3-shoe racing clutch in the future, as it has a separate spring for each shoe.

2. Get a failsafe. If your RX/TX batteries run out, or you get out of range, you'll get alot of exercise chasing it, and possibly end up with broken parts.

Thanks man for the info! I appreciate

A truck stand or any ghetto rigged setup where the truck can sit on and have the tires off the ground will help you out too, rig one up or buy one but definately useful

Upgrade to a rechargeable rx pack. If your batteries are dead, it would definitely make the throttle stick open. Enough juice to open, not enough to close. A 6 volt pack will make your servos come alive. Forcing the truck to not move by placing a cement block in front of it probably already toasted your clutch. EACH TIME you go to run your rig, make sure the electronics are functioning properly before starting the engine. Check to make sure the carb barrel is opening and closing correctly.
