I bought some bling axles for my Raptor R from GPM and during installation I noted that the part that attaches to the diff stub has no slot, it depends 100% on the retainer pin. This spooks me. Have any of you run axles like this with no problems??. Pics of diff, stock slotted axle and non slotted axle end.

I think I will use these on my shelf queen and try some Cobra or Hot racing axles, which ever has slotted hubs and is strong. This is for a 4S Raptor R, so I don't want to shear pins when running it.

Everything depends on pins for driving forces. If the pins are great, and the mating surfaces are great... you're good to go. Axial Wild Boar driveshafts...

I never had a problem with those screw shafts. :thumbs-up:
Love those axial shafts. They will put up some abuse.

@Daskraut mip has had a good following on drive shafts for 20 years.

But that is for a crawler, correct?. I "was" putting these on a 4S Raptor R which will have a lot more force applied to that pin, which now os just a mechanical fuse, not a retention system. The slots take the force, the pin just keeps them in place.

It was for a Yeti rock racer.

I see your dilemma now. Everything in the picture is metal, right?

I hope your Hot Racing axles will be what you're after.

Yep, all metal.
That changes everything. As long as the play around the pin that secures the axle to the outdrives is minimal... I'd totally send it. In my mind, it would be no different than dog bone/CVA bone axles that rely on pins.

Very good point....ok, that puts my fears to rest. One bad thing about being an aircraft mechanic for 45 years....you tend to look at everything with a critical view!!
