Hey guys I recently posted about having an issue with my ESC acting up as soon as I plugged in my battery. Got that issue fixed by buying a new ESC. Also got a fan to cool the motor. Well.. the brushed motor is fried as well and smells awful. I would like to upgrade to a 540 brushless motor. I see 10.5T, 9T, all kinds of different ones. How do I know which one to go with? T I assume stands for teeth but what does it mean exactly?

I've done alot of dumb things with an xte (and an xbe). They're light, and handle pretty well for the $$, but durability will be a challenge.
A 540 sized brushless motor somewhere around 3600kv should work in that rig, but be careful of too much power- stay at 2s. That drivetrain can't handle 3s for long. Don't try for too much speed. There are other rigs to look at if you want to go fast.

Honestly I'm not trying to get it to do anything stupid. I dont even jump it. Mainly something for the dogs to chase through the grass. Lol. I do run the 2s 7.4v 5000mah but dont plan on the 3s upgrade. Do I need to upgrade my pinion gear or anything when going to a brushless motor?

Depends on how the new motor kv compares with your old motor

3300kv to 3600kv 3652-3660 is just perfect. Don't need anything crazy, just a cheap BL motor.
Anywayz.......
☆Old post, new life, if you have the PRO model you can ramp up the power (or just by using the hardened metal diffs & spur gear input shaft from a Pro). I added alloy adj uppers and also heavy duty turnbuckles front and rear. The stock Big Bore shocks that come on the Pro aren't awful but I replaced them with some generic big bore aluminum shocks (got two sets of front shox sized for Traxxas 2wd off of AliExpress for about $13). I also upgraded the steering and the upper steering plate to aluminum. I made my own center driveshaft from steel because it was easy and because the ONLY one you can buy is made of aluminum butter! I'm running a Spektrum 3200KV 3660 i pulled from a Typhon (replaced the ball motor bearings with Japanese stainless) and paired the motor with an 85a Spektrum Smart ESC. I run on 3s and it outruns my buddies Arrma 3s 4wd Vorteks! Haven't broke anything but a tire that blew apart, hated them stock wheels and tires anyways! Running some MJX/HyperGo 1/16 truck tires on it now and man are they wicked, just the right size (too big for 1/16 really) and grip a treat!

☆If anyone actually reads this I want you to know we pulled this Blackout XTE Pro out of a RIVER BANK half buried in sand and silt , who knows how long it had been in that river!
So we replaced 1/3 of the ball bearings and half the screws and thats it besides the upgrade parts mentioned. It'ss been just TiTz! So much more fun than we ever expected!
BUt i think maybe it's because it's the Pro model.
