I was thinking about Jeff's post about pit stop intervals being 7.5 seconds when I posted.


A win is a win, but I don't consider it an achievement unless Josh races.

I certainly hope all is well with Josh and Joe.

Joe hasn't been on since Sat and Josh normally is on in the mornings which didn't happen today.

I had a rough few days. All is well now at home, but I simply wasn't in the mood to race or do anything for that matter. I was also extremely tired from going to mid-ohio with the kids.

I could not believe you would have forgotten to run again so I figured there had to be something else.

I wondered if you be up for racing after I read your post about taking the kids to a 1:1 race.

Glad all is well, I was worried a bit though.

I am not getting the flow of this weeks track at all.

After 2 half hour practice sessions, I am lucky if I am able to put together 5 or 6 clean laps in a row.

Where is it this week anyways Rob? I havn't looked in a while.

The track with the back straight that isn't so straight.

Ick, I hate that track too. It seems sooo small. I also have a hard time running a clean lap there. It just never seems to feel fast I think.

I hope you can get back in the groove.

If you wanted a challenge you certainly have one now. 88 points back from first with 6 races to go is a tall order.

The tough part for me is getting enough steering. You seem to have to change directions constantly. And getting the on-power steering dialed in is not easy. I practiced a bit yesterday. When I get a rhythm, I usually average about 15.5 seconds. Not horrible I guess. I popped off a 14.4 and a 14.5 in that session but I need to really unlock the timing. It's just not an easy one to dial in.

I've found that the easiest way to get more on-power steering is to fiddle around with the rear diff setting. I don't particularly like a car that turns like a forklift though.

It is my unfortunate duty to inform all participants of the 2009 VRCNT season that the awards program has been cancelled do to financial troubles. The '09 season will continue only without any end of season payouts and/or awards. The 2010 season is still expected to be organized but race and season awards are not expected. My sincere apologies to all competitors.

Would you guys be willing to do a few short tests for me? I'm beginning work on the new format spreadsheet but I'd like some realistic figures to work with. I'd like to set up some qualifying runs.

OK, I'm gonna set up a Qualifying run at RC Speedway for next weekend. It'll be short and the only lap that matters is the first one. Go fast, turn left. That's all there is to it.

Working on the 2010 timesheet and I think I will do away with the ~Elapsed columns in favor of Real Time, Handicap Factor and Adjusted Times. The whole point of the ~Elapsed Time was to sort of show where everybody was but I think we really need something more visual than a bunch of numbers. I think it would be nice to actually "see" who is running in what position at a given time into the race versus all the numbers we see now. That being said, I'll be working on ditching the laptime line chart in favor of a line chart to show running positions at set intervals... say every 20 seconds.

My goodness this track is difficult to setup for. I'm starting to get a relatively comfortable setup by I'm still rather fuzzy on my braking zones and turn-ins. I think I'm only full throttle like twice the entire time around. This is a mid throttle track for sure it seems to me. I think once I figured that out that diff adjustments will be key to more speed. I'm still not very quick, I'm lucky to get down into the 15s.

F THIS TRACK.

I know damn well this track offers the same sort of narrow racing line as Oslo but I cannot keep the damn car off the boards. I cannot seem to find a flow, then throw in a godamn house fly and my computer freezing for an instant on two occasions to my frustration... What a mess. It may have a lot of character and prestige but I hate it.

Well, I got the flow for the most part. But my handling really went away somewhere around the second pit stop. Add to that a copious amount of marshaling and it wasn't exactly glamorous.

However, I do have to thank Josh for the head's up on the rear diff. I lightened the action and that allowed me to get into the throttle earlier without kicking the rear end out. Helped me roll out of turns on power rather than waiting for the car to straighten out. Suits my driving style better.
