RC10GT drives when idling, have to hold the brake (video included)

it's been so long sense iv dealt with this i don't remember what's causing it. i want to say clutch. i know the clutch bell spins freely when the motors off so the shoes aren't dragging (4 shoe clutch). it takes off/drives when just idling, and at a good pace. i have to hold the brake to keep it from driving off and even at full brake it still inches forwards. the idle RPM doesn't change (lower) when on the brake. so I'm pretty sure the linkages and carb are adjusted correctly. anyone got $ .02?

Did you try lowering the idle on the carburetor

the idle is maybe a touch high, but should be fine. i was having problems with it dying when i hit the brake, cranked the screw in just enough to not do that. so iv fiddled with it.

Are the clutch springs still good? Nothing hanging up ot a bit of surface rust/dirt in your clutch bell? The shoes all move freely?

It runs great and I want to get mine running in my living room now!

i haven't popped the clutch bell off to look. i just know it's got a 4 shoe set up because it came with a spare flywheel.

i need to remember to post a pic, i can't see how clutch springs would attach. I'm never messed with a 4 shoe clutch before.

Look into MIP 4 in 1 clutch set up. Betcha thats what you got.

That MIP set up didnt use springs. You might not need parts, just set up.

maybe. the only thing i can think to do is take material off the shoes, lighten them up so they'll have less centrifugal force. but they're already pretty small...

Ppl used to run them backwards too. Not entirely sure how the changes all effect the set up tho.
I bet MIP re releases the clutch when the GT hits the market.

I would think that lots of stock parts and hopefully good aftermarket support will come back for that truck. That truck was HUGE when it was new and ppl still want them now.
I'm sure you'll be able to get something to get it working either way.

Pull 2 shoes off and try it again.

Your problem isn't unique.
The car came with dual shoe clutch with springs. Ppl had trouble keeping it locked at high rpm.
Associated made a 3 shoe and then this 4 shoe thing.
Ppl would trim the shoes to find the best balance of engagement and slippage and to adjust how fast they engaged.
Some ppl usef 2 long shoes and 2 short etc...

Associated also pulled the clutch shoe springs right out of the later kits. Didn't have them at all.
I think this will take some trial and error to dial in to where you like it.
