I know this may sound like a stupid question but will any radio system work in a nitro, just not sure if you need any special settings or adjustments that will specifically work for a nitro. Want to upgrade from my older am system. Thanks

As long as the radio is compatible with the reciever your fine. I recommend the 2.4 ghz spectrum DX3C for $129.99 it comes with a 3 channel sr300 rx. 20 model memory and several adjustment capabilities for trim and travel. I'm happy with mine.

I am doing a high school project and am trying to build a robot arm and have decided to mount it ontop of a electric rc car. The only problem is that i need at lest a 8ch remote and recever and all i have been able to find is 4ch remotes for rc cars.

Can you use a remote from a airplane or from a helicopter and it work?

And if so then what would be a good to use for it?

You can try a Spektrum DX-8. It's a 2.4GHz and has the same capabilities as the ground version plus. I use the DX-7i for my aircraft and really like it.

Is there anything cheaper? I don't have a job so money is a issues.
