Well, you guys have helped me on other fronts, now I need some here.

Which brand of radio should I be looking at for a NTC3 kit that I am currently piecing together (the parts list anyway)

Trying to learn the manufacturers and which ones are good.

Also, I see the kit recommends the use od "standard" servos. Can anyone tell me the difference between standard, and non standard?

Thanks in advance!

As with everything else in this hobby the sky is the limit. If you going to do this the right way I would go with something like the JR XR3i, airtronics MX-3, or the futaba equal (not sure what it is) These all run right around $150. This may seem like alot, but they run on FM frequency and are less prone to glitching.

I'm assuming that they mean standard servo's compared to digital. Digital are more expensive and unelss your a hardcore racer I don't think you really need them.

Well, figuring in my total initial budget, I'd say that the FM units are a little out of my price range (for now)

I'm trying to get my feet wet and learn as much as I can now.

Say my budget is in the $50-75 range for a radio, any recommendations there?

Send a PM to MR Tmaxx, or check out the for sale thread, he has a good JR FM radio that he is selling and it would fit in your price range. I bought one from him and it was in excellent condition.

Here is the link to his therad https://www.rcnitrotalk.com/forum/showthread.php?t=32096

He's asking $55 shipped. You really can't beat that!

Thanks for the heads up.

I'm assuming JR is a decent brand then, and would be worthwhile even if I didn't have access to this deal?

JR is a decent brand, its not the best of the best but its up there. I've been running mine for just over a month and havn't had any problems with it yet.

Also with this radio you can run more then one car with it. It has a 3 model memory so if you would ever get another car or 2 you can run with the same transponder just need to buy more recievers.

Damn.....already sold that one.....

So, do you have any recommendations for a new unit that would fall into my price range....

Keep your eyes open for another JR to come along. They are good radios for the price.

For your servos, There are 2 things to look at once you find the price you want to pay. Speed and torque. Try to find servos that are fast and have a good amount of torque. www.towerhobbys.com has all the specs listed for the servos they have on their site and makes for a good place to do research. A good price point for your car and budget will be around 25-40.00 per servo. You may find some used ones but they are pretty much used up by the time they make it to the for sale forum. IMO you will be best served to go new.

A nice, cheap radio is the Futaba 2PL, I have one and have had no issues w/ it at all. It's around $80-90...

(it has a LCD screen, and all the little gizmoz and adjustments..)
