Hi, I currently have a Savage 21 & T Maxx the steering on these trucks with the stock radio is totally different the T Maxx with the stock transmitter is very touchy and no dual rate control. I was considering getting an Airtronics MX 3 Radio. what I was wondering is can I control both of these trucks with the same radio? Also is this a good radio to purchase? One more thing, because the Savage Radio has dual rate steering and you can use Traxxas crystals in this radio, would it work if I put the same crystals in both of the trucks receivers and just use one controller??? As always any info is greatly appreciated

If you dont want to spend money, EL P's suggestion is the way to go. I dont own either of those trucks but I would suggest that you first find out if they both run on the same band (AM or FM) and if the stock crystals are 27Mhz or 75Mhz. If they are the same then all you need to do is to get another set of crystas with the same frequency as one of the sets you have now.

The big drawback to this is that you MUST make sure one truck is turned off before you can run the other. Otherwise bad things will happen.

The other side would be to buy a different set of crystals and only have to change the one in the transmitter. And when needed, like at a bash or track, you would be able to change to another channel without having to borrow a different set for both.

You can go the route already mentioned, or...

You could get a radio that can handle multiple models. There a re quite a few out there. Futaba, HiTec, JR Racing are three companies that come to mind that have radios able to program multiple models.

I run a fully synthesized set-up with my HiTec Lynx 3D. All I do is drop a receiver into the model that meets the frequency band for my transmitter and I'm golden. I use synthesized receivers which is pricey, but I can run on any frequency within the band and not worry about carrying multiple crystals. Works wonders in a multi-RC bash session. Any freq matches, and a little twist of the dial and no more conflict.

The HiTec Lynx 3D can support up to ten models in programmed memory (for trim settings), but you could conceivably run any number beyond that if you do not want to have saved settings.

Futaba has a similar radio (ask Christian about it). JR Racing XS3 can handle up to six models in memory.

This, again, is a pricey way to go, but it offers great flexibility.

Thanks for the info, If I switch to fm frequency, you get one receiver with the radio, can you buy just the fm receiver that I would need for the other truck so I could run both of them with one radio? I took my crystal out of my Traxxas radio and put it in my HPI radio and it worked okay on my T Maxx, I might just use this set up for awhile> A friend of mine has an Airtronics mx3 radio on his T maxx and loves it, anybody have any feedback on them????
