So my pull start broke a few days ago... It won't retract fully and gets stuck when it's out a bit, it will pull though and won't crank the engine at full speed and there's this metal clicking at the same time... I took it off, and when I loosened it, the pull start sprung back in so I don't think that's the problem. I was wondering it it could be a slipping OWB?? I'm gonna clean the bearing and connecting shaft and I don't know how or with what to clean it??

Any help would be greatly appreciated. It's my only rc and I really want it running again.

Thanks in advance! :)

I've read using nitro to clean. But I would definitely recommend waiting for a pro to give you a solid answer.

if the pull start is not fully retracting the screws holding it in place may be a little too tight.

the only way a pull start will stop a engine running is if the OWB was installed backwards (in that case the engine would not crank over) or if the OWB was damaged not allowing it to slip

the tingi sound can be caused by quite a lot of things but its not always an indication that there is a problem

Okay, so I put it all back together, got it fired up, it hadn't held the tune that was working fine before, I went from rich to lean and everything in between and it wouldn't idle at all then I realised I had a cracked clutch bell. Could this possibly cause it to go wrong like this?? I took the clutch bell off and one of the shoes wasn't seated properly. There was also a horrible looking brown goo seeping from just about everywhere on my engine it could... I'm pretty sure I need a new clutch bell, but should I get new shoes with it?? Any help would be very much appreciated!

Holly guacamole that clutch bell has been HOT…

Got pics of the shoes from the front?
Chances are the shoes are done as well as the CB bearings.
Is the flywheel pin bent?

Who the heck is Holly... Holy I swear I typed Holy...

You definitely need a new bell…

The Shoes don’t look too bad and may be salvageable. I would remove the shoes and clean up the edges and inspect the flywheel pins. If the bell has seen as much heat as it appears to have, often the flywheel pins will show signs as well. When the flywheel pins turn a bluish/purplish color it’s an indication they too suffered from too much heat.

What engine & clutch setup is that? Looks like a 2 shoe clutch from the pics.
Do the shoes fit the flywheel pins correctly? Not loose on the pins and the pins are flush or a little past the shoes when installed/seated?

Okay, I've ordered a new bell and some shoes just to be on the safe side. Its a team infinity .18 with a 2 shoe clutch. I think the flywheel pins look okay, no discolouration. I'll have another look tomorrow. They don't sit flush, they sit slightly in, even when seated properly... but they're not loose, good and tight. The shoes also seem to have worn away at the flywheel, you can kinda see it from the last photo, but when I pull the shoes out you can see where the fly is worn...
