The pinion gear on my Baja keeps sliding forward along with the bearing and has cut a notch into the spur. Is there supposed to be a shim or something there?

check all the bolts holding the motor in, the side plates, the rear tranny plate ect. sounds like your having a rash of loose or missing bolts.

the stock carrier may also be needed to be repleased.

I did take the entire clutch/spur/etc assembly apart and made sure I wasn't missing any shims.

What I think is going on is that the pinion and clutch bell aren't fully seated so the whole assembly is longer than it should be. I messed with it and next time I run it I'll see what happens.

My guess is that something is loose around the engine mounts, causing it to shift around.
Have you double checked/ loctited all the bolts? Make sure to use medium strength otherwise that engine is staying there!! Lol!

Yep, yesterday when I discovered the missing chassis bolts I took out all the metal-metal screws and put blue loctite (red where it goes into the engine) on them.

The HPI loctite isn't all that strong. It's easy to release it with a blast from my butane torch.

Update! So I ran it out on the road today for about 5 passes and then took the spur cover off and the freakin thing had moved again! At this point, I'm stumped as to what could be causing it. It's like the screw is backing out halfway and letting the clutch bell move out of the slot in the pinion gear.

I fixed it again and if it comes out again then I'll get a pic for you guys to examine (sorry I didn't do it earlier; I only though about it after I fixed it this time).

Yesterday after I put everything back together with RED loctite this time, I ran it and checked and it hadn't moved. Keeping my fingers crossed.
