What’s the best paint to use when painting a lexan body? I'm not really into body work or painting (rather on the tuning side), but I need to know a good brand that I can probably find in a local hardware store and or hobby shop, and comes in a rattle can.. Nothing fancy like airbrush etc… I'm asking this question because my recent body I have painted for my Savage 4.6 is starting or has chipped of terribly. It's almost back to clear again. I used the regular automotive spray paint in a can that you would normally find in a local hardware shop. Is this a wrong choice of paint? Is that why it didn’t stick on too well?

Also, I have prepped the body before painting, by washing it with soap and warm water and letting it dry… I just want a good brand of paint that will not chip off for the body I'm painting for the RS4 project don’t want to ruin it too.
I have heard that the tamiya (sp) rattle can paints are good and was wondering if there is any better or equal to?

Edited: i just noticed i posted this in the wrong section. please move it to the paint section. sorry!

You definitely want to use a polycarbonate compatible paint. And the best place to find them is at your hobby shop. If you're looking for rattle cans, I'd suggest Pactra Racing Finishes, Tamiya, or now some Spaz Stix paints come in cans. They are easy to use that way but can limit what you do. If you're cool with that, then it's pretty easy. And there are a lot of colors to choose from.
As for body prep, I recommend first cutting any necessary body features. Then wash the whole body in soapy water. Let it dry. Some people also recommend wiping it out with a light swipe of denatured alcohol. That really helps take off any mold release agents and fingerprints. Mask off the windows and whatever design you want. Then start painting. Paint in thin layers and let each layer dry before you apply the next. Don't worry about making the paint heavy. Just make sure you have even color. Then go to the next. If possible, always paint the darker colors first. And when you're done, back the paint with a good solid color. If you are creating a bright paint scheme, back it with white or silver. If you're making a dark scheme, back it with black. Simple as that!

I always scuff the areas to be painted with a scotch brite pad to help the paint adhere. You will not see the skuffs on the topside once it is painted.

NOTE! Do not skuff when using chrome paints.
