I have a Terra Crusher that I beat around with but one way bearing for the electric start is slipping. I took it off and cleaned it with gumout and it worked for a couple starts but it is doing it again. Anyone have a better fix?

The bushing in your backplate is probaly worn out causing it to leak oil on the one way bearing.I would suggest to replace that and clean the one way bearing.

what is the backplate bushing? Is that on the motor or are you talking about that metal plate that is on the electric start gearing?

Either that or you need to replace the oneway and the shaft it spins on. Normally, replacing the one way doesn't do it. What will happen, is that the worn shaft will wear out your new oneway.

Your better off getting both at the same time.

As "highflyin" said, it's the backplate bushing...the brass crankshaft bushing on the engine itself..it's getting worn, and leaking a little. No problem. I had this on a Traxxas electric start once...remove the starter and oneway bearing. Lightly sand the shaft with some 250 grit sandpaper, clean all the oil from the bearing and re-install. Now drill a small hole in the center of the starter gear cover where the bearing will fit, and another in the bottom of the starter gear casing. Now if it slips again, you can spray some cleaner in it, using a spray tube, and you'll have a drain hole in the bottom. That way, you don't have to disassemble it every time it slips. Hope this helps.

WOW!! I like your idea of drilling the holes. I've had mine apart twice to clean it, and it's a time consuming process.
My preference is denatured alcohol. I slosh the bearing around in a cup, then blow it off with an air compressor, then do it again with clean alcohol. I also have alcohol in a spray bottle and do the same to the shaft on the engine.

I clean everything with alcohol....if you drill holes, just drill them big enough for a spray tube.

My one way seems to either slip or lock on to the shaft no matter what way I spin it, even after cleaning it...

Yes, but if the bearing is locking up BOTH ways, it's time for a new bearing.

It's either locking up both directions, then it will slip both directions. Does anyone know where I can order a one-way bearing for the Terra Crusher?
