Who uses a GPS for speed runs? Got anything that doesn't require a phone to get mph?
I was thinking maybe a mountain bike (seem large)speedo but (skyrc?) speedos with android attached seem to be all I found searching the webster.
What do you all use???

The Garmin Forerunner was the go to gps before sky rc came out with a more accurate version able to view on your phone.

Sometimes you can still find the Garmin’s on eBay for cheap. Here’s one I found with a quick search for Garmin 201, you can also search for the 301 and 101 as they were all essentially the same thing.

https://www.ebay.com/itm/196422524037?itmmeta=01J4AQGC0A50XYDY670GNPJM53&hash=item2dbbb1dc85:g:DhMAAOSwJmhmW6sX&itmprp=enc:AQAJAAAAwPqps6v0rS6gUqUFYuCbIiZbeQR807Q3pwTJrkgJKw6df4N4VpbakbGh5D9D/0d69RVfSDXGl4IPf8TKAYRuEanXuShY0op/eifxk6dCzV0eitCm6dXfBpJQ7ejSzFWWX8rD6ZMtWDDJ8E88KKUEnLfYCkeQU1HRyEDMPjs02h8auoK5lyxt/dUHMhWQrsDqi+6zwYb72EM3PfclVMW6lq6vk4kMpnEvhh4JwL346SCaoAfLdX0IvAZ7EIi0gwChdA==|tkp:Bk9SR57AwdeiZA

Thats a perfect price range too!
There were also some wrist wattch type gps that opened on the ebay page.
Are the wristwatches not good (too frigile?) for what we do?
Idk about those, I just know all the top guys used to use the Garmin’s I mentioned. I even still have one.

Sky seems like they have some pretty good products for R/C.
I'd just prefer a stand alone unit if possible.

I thought maybe the watches would be lightweight and easier to wedge in the kit so it wouldn't launch or fall out/off as easily.
The watches are cheap enough that I might try one just tp see how it goes!

👆 This!

I still have a Forerunner 201 floating around here somewhere. They work well.

Perhaps I misunderstand what you mean by stand-alone. The Sky GSM-015 does not require a smart phone. It records and stores data and displays it all in one unit. Data can be downloaded to a computer for review if desired. It is powered by an internal battery or it can be powered off an ESC fan port. Antenna is internal as well. Basically a self-contained unit for recording speed.

Data display is difficult to read in direct sunlight. Shading it with a hand then its readable. Minor drawback. Over time the battery loses its strength. Mine is powered off my ESC fan port now.

Hope this helps a bit more. Good luck. -AC

When you say SkyRC GPS everyone thinks you're talking about this: (GSM020)

Most people arent even aware they also make the GSM015:

That ENOS system is cool. Its a shame its discontinued. What were your impressions of it?

Not practical and gimmicky, for a basher you're better off with 3S, only purpose I can imagine is to use it for cheating in a spec race that's limited to 2S.

You need to have a 3CH radio with ability to press the 3rd channel with your thumb presumably while racing down a straight to get the boost, then must wait 20 sec for it to charge back up, so if your lap times are less than 20 sec then you would have to wait every second lap to use it which would make it more obvious if the power going down the straight isn't consistent every lap :(

Yes! I saw the SkyRC unit that is indeed stand alone!
I was finding only that transponder to phone thing which is 5otally useless for me.
I figured there had to be a low cost optiin that didn't require another device to operate with. Its likely that I will crash so the $$$ options seemed silly.
Definitely grateful for the options and thoughts here!!! 👍

Legal or no, the Enos looks like it would be fun on a drag strip!
