oh....what am i to do?

i've finally convinced a friend of mine to get into nitro r/c ing with me and his grandfather has a place in harrisburg (central pa) that we could run, and make jumps, and maybe a small track...he's got 10 acres!!! anyways, we either want stadium trucks, monster trucks or buggies. i say buggies, but he wanted to be able to run in the short grass there, inside the woods, just in case we couldn't make a track. i basically ruled out stadium trucks, so now it's just mt's or buggies?

info on the land: mostly flat, bumpy in some areas, there's a shallow creek that could be a hazard, but i believe we'll run on the flatlands there.

what should we get? Either Savage, XTM Mammoth, X-terminator, or virtually any durable monster truck or buggy under 500 bucks. just so you know, the weather around here always changes, so a 2.5 maxx is pretty much out of the question, because of it having to be tuned constantly from what i hear. any suggestions?

why did you rule out stadium trucks so fast? i run my rc10gt on short grass and dirt all the time, today i had it in grass taller than the car with no problems

I wouldnt vote out Tmaxx so fast. I love mine and Mn has some funky weather also. (Yesterday was 96 today the high was 46) Gotta love it. I ran my max yesterday and today and didnt have to tune anything. I think I'm ight have just gotten a Very rare good one or something becuase everyone talks bout how they suck to tune and how they constantly break and crap, but I havnt had ANY problems.

Savage 25 is the worst I have seen.
I race at my local track...there are 5 peeps that use savage 25 and they are always having problems with their truck. They keep on having to buy the flywheel or the center sider that cranks the motor to start up...

Personally I think the savage would be a good choice. gauner's suggestion of the GS storm truck would also be good but it may be out of your budget. ignore gauner's suggestion of the duratrax thunder quake (in fact... ignore duratrax altogether!!!!) good luck with your decision buddy

t-maxx is still on the list i guess. are the newer ones the ones without glitches or what? how old are you're guys' maxxes? i guess they could've solved some problems or something since then.

A good reliable buggy is the Hyper 7 PBS, I have one and it takes a hell of a beating. Another might be the 9.5 violator never seen one in person, but from what i have been reading the people that have them love them. just my .02

I would say not the XTM Mammoth, it breaks easy. I don't know why you ruled out stadium trucks, most of the time they are faster than monster trucks, and some can keep up with buggies (Traxxas nitro rustler 2.5). But if you must have a monster truck, I would say Savage 25. I have a T-Maxx, and I like it and all, its just that without atleast $150 worth of aluminum upgrades, it breaks often. The savage comes RTB (ready-to-bash), and has plenty of power for anything you throw at it. Go to the R/C video forum and check out the vid of Shorty's savage. He lands on the lid, after a 10ft jump and only bends the rollbar and a little nub in the heatsink fin. I'm getting a Nitro Rustler ASAP though, always did want one!

By the way, I drove a buggy once, and Shitt do those things have fast acceleration! (compared to monster trucks anyway)

LoL At Duratrax Thunder Quake.. Them trucks blow..lol... My truck is the T-Maxx with the Pro .15 in it, and I love it to death. Its a little rollover happy due to the narrow factory stance, but thats soon to change. Other than that its been one of the tuffest trucks I've ever ran or delt with. I can only say good things about my maxx.

I mean STs are cool for bashing but IMO AWD owns the bashing areas. I've ahd alot of experience with Storms, XTMs, and Savage 25s. All of those are good choices. I love my storm and is great for under 500 ready to go as is the Savage 25. Basically its like this, buggies are meant for speed and stuff but are just so damn fun to bash and they haul ass! MTs have the larger ground clearance and can take harder landings but they are large and bulky. I like buggies because they remind me of a RX7 thats able to jump off cliffs, but thats just me.

i've seen a couple of storm RTR's on Ebay. :w00t: and maybe i'll be able to snag one off of there. Are starter boxes really a necessity for a buggy? or is dealing with a pull start alright until i get some more money?

I had a pullstart on my Storm for a good month or two. You'll be able to deal with no problem. The b01 .21 storm engine is easy to tune and holds a tune pretty nice. I got tired of using the pull start and ebing new to tuning so I bought a Savage 21/25 RotoStart backplate and put it on my storm and I'll be damn if it didnt work! Starter Boxes are not needed unless you have an engine with no pull start or no roto start. Some may think I'm just repping my own person brand but they really car good cars and really good ones for beginers and hardcore people. If you need any other help dont think twice about PM or IMing with anything you need help with.

My dad had the base model XTM X-Terminator. I liked it. He soon traded it even for a modified TMAXX with RS43Drifter's Dad. Speaking of him, RS43Drifter has the XTerminator Deluxe and its nice, and it's also ready to run. Something about that car makes me nervous some how. The engine in them is good too. After trying 2 Xterminators and a few monster trucks within my family I seem to like buggies better. I like my Storm best out them all, maybe its because I have it to my specs but either way Storms are nice rides.
