Exactly, which is what I meant by the stinger length; Shorten it too much, and it has the same effect as drilling it to a larger size (in theory... in practice, it's impossible due to material thickness). It will lessen the amount of pressure in the pipe, which will change the pressure supplied to the fuel tank (however miniscule it is), and in turn, the reverb wave will change as well (as some will be lost out the stinger).
The pipe is there merely to help form (not cancel it out) the reverb wave. It also helps to pressurize the fuel tank (altho the vacuum of the combustion chamber/crankcase is what really draws in fuel).
That is about the extent of what I know. Beyond that, I get headaches and crossed-eyes lol. I'm not an expert in exhaust systems; I just choose a pipe that is approximate to the power band that I need, and go with it.
