Exactly, which is what I meant by the stinger length; Shorten it too much, and it has the same effect as drilling it to a larger size (in theory... in practice, it's impossible due to material thickness). It will lessen the amount of pressure in the pipe, which will change the pressure supplied to the fuel tank (however miniscule it is), and in turn, the reverb wave will change as well (as some will be lost out the stinger).

The pipe is there merely to help form (not cancel it out) the reverb wave. It also helps to pressurize the fuel tank (altho the vacuum of the combustion chamber/crankcase is what really draws in fuel).

That is about the extent of what I know. Beyond that, I get headaches and crossed-eyes lol. I'm not an expert in exhaust systems; I just choose a pipe that is approximate to the power band that I need, and go with it.

I use .063 pipes on my RGs and VZb ....also use .053 on VZb for slightly larger tracks.....
I Use JP-1 on the P5.....I use the 2050 on P5 for long tracks.....
all except the 2050 are considered low to mid pipes and they all rock in th eright application.....for larger .26+ size mills I have to say the HPI ribbed pipe is the best pipe value to performance I've found...and makes em sound MEAN AS HELL.....if you aren't sure on what pipe you want I'd suggest buying used ones in decent shape....I find em on flea-bay all the time w/o headers.....oh yeah get a few different style headers too...I keep a few short and long "C" shaped ones and a few "U" shaped ones.....try mixing headers too....be surprised how that will affect as welll......I can't say I fully understand ALL the intricacies of exhasy pipe design but I do know I try as many different types as I can and just from trial and error I find out what works better on my setup.....

Another thing about our RC exhaust pipes is that the "reverb pulse" is also used to help keep the air/fuel mixture from getting completely blown out the exhaust port before geting a chance to be compressed and combusted. Remember, there are no valves in our little engines. At certain points of the stroke both the intake and exhaust ports are open at the same time.

I totally agree, which is a main reason why I figure that exhaust tuning is especially critical on 2 stroke engines in general.

I didn't read any of this thread, but I'll post this.

053 is mid
063 is low
