Not getting full speed with new esc kyosho viper

So I finally swapped my kyosho viper a modern esc radio and receiver but now I am only getting about half the speed as I was with the stock speed control. Can it be because I’m using nimh batteries instead of a 2s lipo? The esc is a cheap esc from eBay and I plan to get a nice one. Could this also be the problem. Everything is stock except the esc radio and controller.

a freshly fully charged 6 cell nimh will be fast than a 2 cell lipo due to start voltage the only thing a lipo does is sustain its higher voltage than a nimh.we gear a lipo driven rc to achieve the makeup in voltage differences.. id say esc is issue not sure what amperage it is.. you had a rotary /manual before correct that will allow the nimh battery to deliver its full amperage while the new esc will limit it to whatever its rated at. following? nimh voltage can be 9,36 or higher lipo is 8.4 max with standard lipo

Correct I had the manual esc before. This is the specs of the new esc. Something tells me it doesn’t not really achieve 320a

I purchased a hobby wing brushed esc 80amp and after programming it with the correct settings it runs great. I will NOT be being eBay esc from now on. There was no way those specs could be true. Thanks for the help.

Sucks man. I never trust off-brand electronics. I don't like my rigs catching on
