not to stir things back up again, but was curious. First, I admit i've been out of the radio repair biz for about 10 years but even so there are sidebands. Sure, that radio might not be set to xmit on a specific frequency however it is very possible, depending on a multitude of variables, that a sideband could be interfereing. Something as simple as a loose or corroded antenna connection could also amplify those harmonics and yes, could "jam"
Is it likely...not really, would suspect the original posts issue be specific to his equipment (loose rcvr or servo connection) but can't in good faith summarily dismiss the possibility of the neighbors radio interfering.
 
I was advised to buy a failsafe before buying a rig as it will save money in the long run. I'm sorry you had to learn the hard way:(
 
ooooo painful i'd have to recomend a good failsafe.
The last one i had on my old savage didn't work as i found out the hard way.
