Do you need that many antennas to just do the basics. You say you cannot do it with the equipment you are allowed to use. Is it not simple to get the equipment that you can do it with. I am just trying to understand not create a conflict. I do not have any answers to what happened. It happened. Thats it. I do not know if it was him. I do know he does some weird stuff though and that is a fact.

As an experienced rc driver, other than low battery pack, what could cause this loss on a residential street with no other rc drivers around?

Sorry I missed your reply while typing. I didn't know that but I don't think there are any small children in the houses where I was. How far could they reach.

You need an antenna tuned to the frequency you are going to use. If you want to use 15 different frequencies (10 Meter, 20 Meter, etc.) you either need a mulit-frequency antenna to cover them all or a different antenna for each one. Tuned antennas perform better. There are no "traps" to loose impedance. I will post a picture of my 18 wheeler for you if you wish. I use two antennas for each the frequencies I use on the road plus an UHF/VHF FM antenna for repeater use.

They can reach up to a half mile or so in most cases.

I have a glitch problem on the street in front of my farm. It happens in the exact same spot every time. We concluded that the water department has wireless monitors on our farm inlet because we are on a "commercial" water and electric plan. We do not have a conventional meter and the monitor is interfering with my LST. Thank goodness I have a fail-safe. All that happens is my throttle is cut. If i avoid that five foot section of the street all is well...

You do realize that I am talking about a house unit not over the road unit

Doesn't matter. They are the same technology. I can transmit on any HF frequency that any base station can. Any FM station too. You really don't understand how this stuff works. I understand. I didn't either untill I invested $3000+ into the radios (and tuner and antennas) and two+ years studying radio technology.

Still not sure. I have driven in this spot numerous times and never had a problem except that one time. which I have not been back too since I replaced all broken parts and installed failsafe.

I do plan on going to that spot just to see what will happen, but the weather got a little cold out here in the east to enjoy driving.

I don't know. I would have to come to your house with my buddies broad-spectrum analyzer to be able to tell you what and where the interference is coming from. All I am trying to say is the "HAM" station isn't capable of that kind of interference. Knock on his door. Have your rig and transmitter with you. Tell him what is happening. If he is an Extra Class Operator (and from what you describe I am willing to bet he is) he can explain this far better than I. We are a great bunch of guys and will spend hours showing you how our equipment works.

I apologize if I offended you. I don't know how the stuff works, your right. Like I said, It happened and there is nothing I can do about it. I don't know what happened and now with the failsafe, I can only hope it doesn't happen again. It would be costly at this point to switch over to 2.4g especially since I just spent the money to buy the T-maxx and have to do the repairs to after 2 weeks. thank you for your input. I can only hope that this RADIO OPERATOR did not do this intentionally!

I can assure you he would never interfere with intent. You did not offend me, but we "HAMS' get blamed for a lot of things that turn out to be other things. We are not liked and I think that is because we are not understood.

Here is my mobile station in my pickup:

And my 18 Wheeler station (it does the same stuff by itself as all three of my pickup radios put together):

i have no clue what it is but i know something near my house is putting out 27mhz signal. cause it screws up my cars at my house. but at my grandparents in VA nothing is wrong

Snazzy looking rig. single bunk?

Is that Barbara Streisand in a diaper hanging from your rear view?

*quick threadjack* I got my CDL permit and got seat time on a pull to california and back 2 summers ago. One of the most interesting road trips of my life. :)

Nope. It is was a double bunk high-rise 70" sleeper. Recently got a new truck with a 74" sleeper. Will post pics when she gets a bath.

You are not making fun of my frog, are you?

OOHHhhh... Frog.. I see it now.

LOL.. no, I actually thought it was the "Baby" from "The Dinosaurs" tv show for a few minutes but at quick glance, it reminded me of Barbara.

What make is the new truck?

I'm contemplating looking for a job as a driver but really don't want to go the Schneider route... I'd like to find a local'ish company that will train me.

*chuckle* if I had a quarter for every time I lost my gear when approaching a left turn at a green light and had to come to a complete stop to shove it in 3rd and take off again, I'd have about a buck fifty... that was embarrassing!! :hehe:

"Not the mama!" LMAO!!! I miss that show...

The new ride is an '09 Freightliner Cascadia.

Good luck with the job hunt. A lot of companys have been laying off drivers but it all depends on your area.

If you can't find it, grind it! :)

Thanks for the good luck wishes.

Heh.. yeah, I got the hang of it eventually. :)

Just curious, are you using a 4 cell AA holder? Those have a tendency to have issues due to vibration, especially if the holder plastic holds the cells with any authority (>cartman image here<). When the battery shifts, the plastic holds it until it whacks something and slides back into contact on the + terminal.

I had that happen a few times back in the day before I started using receiver packs that are soldered to each other vs relying on springs to keep contact.

You could also have switch issues. Has your switch ever gotten damp? A gritty switch causes a similar problem. Found that out the hard way a few times as well. Now I make sure to check my switches and hit them with WD once in a while to keep corrosion at bay.

I am using the original 4 AA battery pack. I do not see anything out of the ordinary. The truck is only a couple of weeks old and everything looks fine, but I will keep that in mind. The weather and time have been keeping from going back to that same spot. I do plan on going back there now that I have a failsafe. With caution I might add as I don't fully trust the failsafe either. Thanks for the info. i will look into that.

Yeah, a failsafe won't help you if it's power loss. May want to rig up a throttle return spring on it somehow. Then you have electronic protection and mechanical protection.
