The Traxxas 3.3 is crap compared to an OS engine. They are notorious for busting con-rods so by the time you figure the cost of the engine plus an aftermarket con-rod your not to far away from the cost of the OS .18tz anyway which will perform just as well if not better than the 3.3 IMO. The Novarossi pictured above appears to be a limited edition not only because it says limited on it but also because you can't hardly find them for sale outside of eBay. Even if you did manage to lay your hands on one its specs are slightly more HP and slightly less RPM. Specs much more suited for a 1/8 scale buggy IMO which is probably what it was made for. If that is the case then its gonna be a big block .21 and will not be a direct drop in. I can't think of a better engine for $200 bucks or less for a Rusty than the OS .18tz... just my :2cents:

Yes I think I'll just stick with a pull start.
The main thing that makes me think about the traxxas engines is the price, if go for the O.S. I have nothing for repairs on any of my rigs which could be disastrous. Reliability wise how is a TRX 2.5r??

Quick Fire

Its a box the rig sits on top of and when you push downwards on the glow ignitor a rubber wheel sticking out of the box turns the flywheel to start the mill. You just have to have a large race style flywheel so that it can connect with the bump box. This is something used by racers mainly that dont have to constantly restart there engines. If your just a basher then a bump box is not something you want to have to carry around all the time.

Hi Zdragon,
For anyone interested, Dynamite make a real nice looking Universal Starter Box.
It's called Quick Fire with a part number DYNP5300.

I think it's a great idea.

The 2.5R is more dependable than the 3.3 due to its lack of torque using the exact same rod as the 3.3. Now in order to rid the 3.3 of the rod splitting issue Davids Diesel makes a very heavy duty rod for it for $39. Along with a good set if boca bearings right off the bat the 3.3 will be very dependable. I ran the 2.5R in my revo and never had issues with it although it did seem to run better at temps around 280 running 30% and a medium plug. I bought it brand new and had 5 gallons thru it before selling it to buy my buggy and the guy i sold it to is still running it as far as i know.

The 2.5 is more reliable and a decent power plant if your on a tight budget. I ran a couple of them, one of which was in a Nitro rusty and it work pretty well. not as powerful as the 3.3 but they arent known for busting con rods either.

The problem with that is by the time you buy a 3.3, con rod, and boca bearings you have enough to buy an OS .18tz anyway.

A set of boca bearings are $60 added to a new con rod and it would probably be cheaper to buy the O.S. Motor. Getting a less powerfull mill may be a better idea because I am a bit gungho on the throttle a little to often

If you get a 2.5r, Id stay with the 2.2 Dirt Hawgs or 2.8 Badlands. I ran the DH with my 2.5 and it did great, I'm now running the Trenchers and they are a bit heavier. My 2.5 is a great engine, I broke a mounting tab off and putting a hole in the block, I swapped the internals into a fried 2.5 and have put a few more gallons through it. I'm hopping to get it back shortly, I let a buddy use it in his T-Maxx.

Actually you could damn near afford a novarossi mill for what it cost to buy a new 3.3 and install a dd rod and boca bearings. Lol

Good engine, but the 18tz is too much engine for a stock rusty IMO. Anything more than a decent .15 size displacement is just overkill.

If I could afford these engines I would much preffer to just save a little more and get something like a second hand revo but hopefully this will happen in the future :D! I think for now ita a standard 2.5r, I have a tuned pipe that came with my rig on a pro .15 so I can pop that on it.
Thanks for all your help guys its invaluable!
