Hi All

I'm coming back to the RC hobby after a time away and refurbishing my cars that were stored away for a while. Mostly I had Electric, but I do have a Tamyia Nitro-Force (NDF-01) with what I think is a Tamyia FR-15S Glow-Engine. Honestly, I never had much luck with it; it did work, but just not consistantly.

I'm trying to get it back on the track now, but its a relearning exercise in Glow Engine cars. I have got the Instructions for the Car, but can't find anything on the engine apart from the exploded parts diagram in the instructions.

I've looked online but can't find documents on the actual engine and maintanence etc. Does anyone know if such a thing exists, or is it all a bit more generic? What's the best fuel? 15%?

I'll keep reading, but if anythign sprigs to mind as specific advice I'd be all ears.

Have fun.

anything 15-25% methanol will be fine, with 25% offering best performance so far I know. You could go higher but the results would be similar and not worth the extra money. Oil percentages from 9-15% are great. It's my first time hearing about an inconsistent tamiya engine..

Thanks. My sad conclusion is that the inconsistancy was entirely my fault ... but I'm back to learn :-)

You mean nitro, not methanol. 😉

Started to strip the engine down, (I used some after run oil on it the last time I used it so fingers crossed it's still ok).
- Air Filter rubber was all sticky and a good cleant with Isopropyl Alcohol has done wonders.
- Air Filter sponge was a mess, all sticky and just crumbled away. Need a replacement. 2x 30mm di. discs about 10mm thick as far as I can tell.
- Found Glow Plug Starter, (and Charger!) NiCd Sub C beyond saving it's been not used for so long, so replacing with a NiMH one with better mAh.
- Found original manual. A big plus, but while it gives more info on the engine, still not enough.

Glow Plug: Some corrosion so I'll replace ... but I'm a bit lost here. I can't find anything that specifiically says what type of Glow Plug I should use. The corroded one has a '77' on it, and another one I had in the tool box is a bit shorter (looks fresh and clean) has an R5 on it. Can someone just tell me where to start with this. I'm happy to research anything I'm just a bit lost with the different types, hot/med/cold sixes etc.
