Nice! I've been himming and hawing around trying to figure out what I want lately. Ended up getting a new couch instead.

I'm stuck in the stone ages with a Hitachi 60" rear projection unit that my wife and I bought shortly after getting married. It was our first "big" purchase as a married couple, over 8 years ago.

There isn't anything wrong with it, but I'd like to know what's good to buy in case it fails on us. Then I don't have to buy without knowing what's good. We got lucky with it. Listed at $2200 and we walked out paying $1300 for it. Combination of sales, opening a sears card and the salesman having a migraine.

Regardless, I doubt we will be paying half for whatever we get next, so I at least want to know what I'm getting. Been really impressed with the samsung 50" LCD units.

All I do know is that anything smaller and we just aren't going to enjoy it as much. Also, anything we get next is going to require a new audio receiver to deal with HDMI and a new dvd/blue ray player... not looking forward to tacking another grand on top of a new shiny tv.

Something to remember: Sony, Toshiba, and Panasonic LCD televisions from 42"-60" are all made in the same plant in Taiwan. Just different Faroud chips, branding, and connector counts. The screen itself is the exact same so if the features match up for what you need, go with the lower-priced of the 3 brands for matching sizes.
