new to this need help!

My brother gave me this 1/10 road car. It's missing parts. This will be my first but I dont want to skimp on it. I don't have pix because my phone won't upload them all I know is it's a 1/10 and says smartech on it. Awd and u have a 2speed trans in it now. I'm having trouble finding a powerful motor and a 2speed clutch bell and parts. I have no engine parts only the servos drivetrain and body and chassis. I'm at a lose and want to make this thing look nice and run great. I wanted a .28 but someone said it's gonna be too big Amy other powerful alternatives?

i went to the local hobby shop that deals in all nitro cars planes and boats. they were no help could not figure out what car i had, and refused to sell me anything because it wasn't there name brands.

Don't be offended by what I am going to say. The reason you can't find the parts is they are not a good product at all. If you want to start in nitro, get a good brand with a lot of aftermarket support. I would recommend a Traxxas t maxx classic. Tons of people either have this truck or has had one.. I'm guessing well over half of the guys on this forum. . Just one guy's opinion.

i dont want a truck i have an on road car. thats what id like to stick with. so is it not wirth messing with?? I'm just looking to try and get a motor i need a clutch bell, exhaust, motor mounts? and its startable and drivable. id like to also get new up to date servos. a new radio. but i dont know what I'm looking for what motor i want for on road racing and drift, i dont know what bell clutch works with that motor and my 2 speed. or how many teeth. or which servos will work. I'm at a lose. brand new dont know anything yet

It's highly likely they couldn't sell you anything is because most local hobby shops are not going to carry parts for generic brands such as Smartech. If you want to stick with smartech then you might be able to find what you need here: http://www.smartechracing.com/.

Otherwise, there are a number of nitro on-road cars available (such as Associated, HPI, Serpent, Traxxas) and I'm sure you're local hobby shop even carries some of them or can have them in the shop for you in just a few days.

Okay. You can get a decent rx tx 2.4ghz for around 50, they are called fly sky fs gt 3 b or c. As far as an engine you need to know what you have and go from there. Plenty of guys will id it for you and gibe advise from there. But a .28 is way too big for a car that size. .12 .15 .18 is what you are after.

i just didnt want to buy a whole kit i was just looking forward to building one up. my brother had a traxxas 2.5r engine on this smartech how are those engines? any alternative that is close but maybe more powerful. that seems small since the 3.3 is like a .21 right?

The 3.3 is a .20.. It will be plenty of engine if you go that route. Put a Losi carb on it from a 3.4 Losi engine and now we be cookin with Crisco.. you will put a spankin on him for sure.. that is if the rest of the car holds up..

Lol ok. See now I'm getting somewhere. Now do the motors bolt straight to the chassis or is there a sort of mount I need for individual engines? Maybe a universal one ? Best websites for that engine carb and parts?

It's always tough to give advice for someone new to the hobby that has an off brand kit that doesn't include selling it and getting something that has some support behind it. So first suggestion, sell and get something better. I know your excited and just want to put the rubber to the road but try and be patient, save up if u need to, and get a better kit. You will save yourself sooooo much grief. OFNA has a kit with everything you need for $299. Its a buggy but this is just an example. I haven't gotten into road cars yet so I know nothing about those kits but I'm sure there are good ones at good price points. I also don't know anything about 2 speed transmissions but they sound like could be a real head ache. Maybe not. Good thing to think about is if you're having a hard time finding parts for your kit its probably a sign that you should look into another kit. Whatever you do have fun and good luck.

Thanks lol I think I'm having a hard time finding parts because I don't know what it is lol well I want to get this one built this is the test run to then buy a more expensive nicer one later on and have a show car and a beater.

Basically the 2.5 and 3.3 engines are interchangeable. What ever your brother has for a motor mount will work for 3.3. Ebay will be a good bet to find an engine and the carb uf you so choose. There are "chop shops" on ebay that sell new parts but do not jhave factory packaging.. dollar hobbyz is my fave.

Look at the engine you have now. If it has one gear for a clutcj bell that is good news.. if it has two look to redcat for the clutch bell. I have both and there yours if you need them.

If you do go traxxas 3.3 you will have the choice between an ips crank and a universal or short crank. Ips will work for most 32 pitch cb that traxxas offers. Except the stuff for .15 pro engines.. nitro sport some stampeeds used that engine.

What pipe is on it? One that comes out the back of head or comes out the side through a rectangle port?

i dont have an engine for it at all right now. thats another problem is the pitch idk which engine and clutch bell will meet with the 2 speed i have. or what teeth count i want. for low end torque

The mount you have now will prob work. The mount will be a model specific mount not engine specific unless you go from small block

All traxxas engines are small blocks btw.

Ok you really need to grt a pic up so we can get the right pipe. I am thinking I you go traxxas engine using an exhaust from one of their cars. But we need to see how the engine sits in the car.

If you try to use a car that is not common or outdated and try to use crap from other cars, it is my experience you will buy twice the crap and not use most of it so be patient and research before buying. And get a dremel if you dont have one. You will need to modify stuff.
