i WAS generalizing and dont mean to throw shade, i just kept running into performance walls with the redcats. i have one still i let people run
and i really want an ascent. i was more meaning to look for the gems they offer rather than the cheapest, as my route of going for the cheapest left me wanting more that they werent able to provide.
the ascent looks to be a killer and their bashers look cool as they come.

The Gen series like Gen7, 8, and 9's, and the Accent18 of course, are supposed to be their best crawlers I think. Most of the Redcat bashers aren't that great as far as I know.

Its ok, you can say it. Redcat sucks 🤣

Welcome to RCT!
It seems like they were all suggested except for the FMS line.
Obviously, they are not the most popular, but I like them.😁

Hey all! Appreciate all of the replies and input from everyone, thank you.

Looks like a lot of positive experience with the SCX24 and Redcat, so I am going to go that route with my daughter's crawler options. She's outside now building a dirt track for Hot Wheels that we're going to race on in a few minutes and make a movie, so I think that scale will be a good fit for her.

I was really into the Mojave Grom for myself, but reading here about the weak diffs I am having second thoughts. Easily upgraded? Also, someone mentioned tall grass being an issue for small scale (makes sense) so now I'm wondering whether to get myself something bigger. I was reading about the SCX10 II Deadbolt - does it have a two-speed transmission stock? I saw reference to crawler and fast speeds, but the videos I watched didn't demo that.

With the FMS Smasher, this too mentions two-speed transmission. Is high gear reasonably quick to send it off some jumps?

The Traxxas Summit looks good for my son, I think he could bash that through the grass and dirt jumps or pavement.

I definitely see what people are saying though, there's no way this hobby ends at just 3 vehicles :D I mean, we're going to need a couple of small crawlers for indoor winter fun. Lots of awesome looking vehicles in this thread!

Crawlers typically aren't meant to go fast (hence the crawler name). The little FMS 2 speed crawlers do move pretty quick in high gear but not recommended for jumping.
Any of the Crawlers with a two speed are actually trail trucks. Kind of a give and take, more speed for blazing down trails but sacrifices some crawling abilities.

If you want something to go off of jumps that's a whole different thing, you would want a basher. They tend to be moe rugged, but because of the abuse they are designed for, they tend to need repairs more often. Crawlers rarely need lots of repairs unless you are really rough on them. ( yes I'm looking at you @majin 😜 but I love what you do man!) It all comes down to your style of driving. That's why I own Bashers and Crawlers both.

I just got a team associated mt14. Really impressed.

Have some mini losi's. They're fun, but not that good at a natural outdoor track. Just saying. indoor carpet would be best. Horses for courses, of course.

But really, they're all fun.

Your supposed to work on your crawler course ya doofus! 😜

Hey all, appreciate all the input! A few days ago I got the Mojave Grom. The kids and I have been playing with it a lot, tearing around the driveway and the street, and setting up some jumps, it's been a blast.

So far it's a great entry into the hobby and will help steer us toward the next RCs. As someone said this smaller scale is definitely not a good fit for tall grass so the kids have seen that, it's really quick so not a crawler...gives the kids a chance to figure out what they like or don't like. I'm just happy to drive it flat out on the street, I giggled the first time I drove it :D

Trying to figure out messages, do I need a minimum post count? I wanted to follow up with @WickedFog on cables/adapters to use with the battery and a 3rd party charger.

Thanks again

Thats the best part of this hobby! Love it! :)

I'm not aware of any restrictions to sending PMs but then again I'm not a mod either. I could be wrong.

For a solid entry level charger, look at the HOTA D6 Pro. Youll also need some of THESE 6S balance cables. String them together if one isn't long enough. :)

Thanks @Greywolf74. I might have to search or start a new thread, checking the link to the 6S balance cables I'm not sure what to do with them or how they would connect to the battery I've got in front of me :)
