I think I've narrowed down my problems. All signs point to crappy/kinked antenna. Have been looking on eBay and see that there are a lot of 2.4 ghz tramlns/rec. available. Is that a direct replacement for the 27mhz unit currently installed or are they not interchangeable? Also I have seen a lot of three channel units, can I run them with only two channels operating as I don't have reverse? Thanks for any input or advice.

Yes, you can run a 3 channel unit and only use two channels. Upgrading to the 2.4 ghz is quite nice compared to the old 27mhz and its an easy swap. I FINALLY upgraded mine and went with something simple....Team Associated 2.4GHz XP3-SSi , was hard to beat for $50 of ebay.

Cool thanks. I think that I will get them on the way. Is there a large increase bin performance when upgrading to the 2.4? Any braNds any better than another or is hpi as good as the aftermarket stuff?

One thing to keep in mind is the rx size. Unsure which vehicle you are referencing, but be sure to get one that will fit as there is not a standard size.

Good, those are one of the best MTs, now take your old Rx out of the truck and measure it, try and find something close to the same size or smaller, well depending on your need.

I don't like the TF/RF series at all. Gone through 2 rxs, and the fail safe sucks. The tx is easy to turn the trim (not good when throttle trim gets opened on accident), etc. If u can find a new rx that fits, I'd suggest that. Just don't break the bank. You can find quality tx/rx setup for $120ish. That telemery is a big waste of time in my opinion, so would not pay extra for that

I to the HPI2.4ghz tx rx installed today. Fixed all the problems. Was runn. Great and the. I hit a Tpost right after she grabbed second gear. Grenaded he upper and lower control arms. Sad face.

Just wondering, my antenna is scraped in the middle and has exposed wires. Does that affect it's performance?

I noticed that in real open places like a flat park, the distance has diminished quite a bit as compared to when the truck was brand new.

Yes that can have an effect. Idk if there is anyway to fix it except getting a new rx.

If you're on a budget a Flysky GT3B is a good 2.4ghz TX and the RX replacements are only about 7.50 each. If you have some extra money then Id look at a Futaba 3PL or 4PL or 4PLS.

Oh yes. It's a major problem---it just happened to me a few weeks ago. It can affect range...and take off on you. My neighbor just got a new savage and the exact thing happened to him.

The fix is to run the wire just below the cab body, and cut the tube flush with it top of the body. That *should* give you all the range you need. Not sure if you've tested your range after this occured, but you might want to (with the engine off). ;-)

You can get a replacement antenna...but it's pretty tricky to put on (for me at least). Other than that you are SOL
